Notes from the Winemaker:

The Domaine Carneros Cuvée de la Pompadour Brut Rosé, celebrates the life and times of Madame de Pompadour (the great courtesan and mistress of Louis XV) who is credited with introducing Champagne to the court and was an influential tastemaker in the matters of art, architecture and philosophy. Domaine Carneros Brut Rosé is a wine of great balance, emphasizing fruity and floral characteristics to a greater extent than evident in the Brut or Le Rêve. It is made strictly with artisan attention to quality, with sourcing exclusively from Carneros and the use of time-honored Champenoise methods of production. A blend of 58% Pinot Noir, 42% Chardonnay, the Brut Rosé is meant to be enjoyed at a fairly young age, when the fruity character is still predominant yet there is enough age to make the wine round and balanced. The wine's aroma has hints of wild strawberries and roses with notes of peach Although a pale pink in color, Brut Rosé is not sweeter than our other wines. It is a true Brut.

Tasting Notes

On the nose, the 2019 vintage welcomes the senses with aromas of potpourri, watermelon, honeysuckle, grilled peaches, and oranges. Flavors of tangerine, wild strawberry, peach, marzipan, and mandarin evoke the bliss of a perfect summer day. We made this wine by leaving part of the Pinot Noir juice in contact with the skins for three days during harvest. A warm toastiness evolves from this lees contact and combines with the ethereal Pinot Noir fruit character. As the wine ages and the tiny bubbles are formed, an elegant wine of great poise evolves. Rosé wines are often believed to be made from only Pinot Noir, but the best, including ours, have Chardonnay added for structure.

Ratings & Reviews

95 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
Aromas of stone and rose lead to a rich, unctuous midpalate of wild strawberry, tangerine and Meyer lemon in this persistently bright blend of Pinot Noir (60%) and Chardonnay (40%). Elegant and lively, it offers complexity within an inviting, approachable context of tremendous likability.

93 Points - Wine Spectator:
"A sumptuous blush that's dynamic and sleek, with strawberry and pomegranate flavors highlighted by baked almond tart and spices, building richness on the long finish." -TF (10/2023)
