About the Wine:
In 1820, Albert Morot set up his negociant business in Beaune. Following the phyloxera epidemic, one of his successors bought the first vineyards and built the Chateau de la Creusotte with its cellars. Over the decades the holdings were expanded with particular emphasis on the Premier Crus of Beaune. The Domaine consists of 8 hectares of vines spread over 8 appellations; until 2023 the winery was family-run - it was sold to a Parisian family who hired Pierre-Jean Villa, of Domaine Decelle-Villa, and a small négociant firm in the Rhone, to serve as régisseur (estate manager). The winery will retain the name for at least the next 10 years. As to how the domaine will operate going forward, Decelle-Villa reported that "literally just took over so we're presently in the assessment phase and will institute changes as needed but we're not going to change things just to change things. Like all good domaines, there are specifics relating to the vineyards and cellars that have been established for many years, often with very good reasons. Thus we want to take our time and assess matters carefully."

The vines have an average age of 40 years and produce grapes and wines that have distinct characters. All of the vineyards owned are Premier Crus and include Aigrot, Bressandes, Cent Vignes, Toussaints, Teurons, Marconnets and Savigny Les Beaune Vergelesses La Bataillere.

Picking is entirely by hand. The grapes are selected in the vineyard and put in small cases to avoid them being crushed and they are quickly transported to the winery. A second selection is done at the winery before the destemming. The yields are kept low (25-35 hl/ha) on account of a green harvest done in July and a severe selection done during picking. Vinification is traditional, in open vats. Then the wines are aged in French oak barrels (50 % new each year) for sixteen months. Bottling is done without fining and generally without filtration.

Ratings & Reviews

93 Points - Decanter Magazine:
"The 2022 red Beaune Aigrots from Morot is slow to open, but with time in the glass, it shows a generous black cherry fruit aroma scented with lavender, earth, and spice. There is a sweet character to the fruit on the palate that is immediately satisfying and a tannic grip and density behind the fruit that augurs well for ageing. The grapes come from the 0.75 hectares planted to Pinot here in the deep clay soils near the border with Pommard. The grapes are completely destemmed before a gentle fermentation on native yeasts and ageing in cask (one-third new)." - Charles Curtis, MW (Sep 2023)

 Allen Meadow's Burghound:
"A ripe, fresh and airy nose features notes of essence of red cherry trimmed in hints of spice and newly turned earth. The plump, round and delicious middleweight flavors possess an attractive minerality that adds a sense of lift to the balanced and lingering finish." (Apr 2024)
