About the Winery:
Denner Vineyards is an estate on the far western border of the Paso Robles AVA. Founded by Ron Denner in 1999 after an exhaustive search throughout California. The 156-acre parcel presses up against the Santa Lucia Range, giving the site great diversity of elevation, aspect and soil. The estate is nestled into the Templeton Gap. Denner Vineyards currently uses 45 of the total 108 acres for their estate wine program. The remaining grapes are sold to ultra-premium producers in Paso Robles. Much of their fruit graces the wines of Villa Creek Cellars, Linne Calodo, and Justin Vineyards among others. Denner’s winemaking program is headed by Anthony Yount, a graduate of California Polytechnical University. He is amazingly talented and we are big fans of his wines.

About the Wine:

Blend: 43% Grenache, 25% Mourvedre, 15% Syrah, 8% Carignan, 4% Cinsault, 3% Graciano, 2% Counoise

Tasting Notes:
The brightly pitched nose is singing with wild strawberry, Chinese 5-spice, chaparral and jasmine elements. Flavors of crushed pomegranate, orange peel, miso and roasted maitake mushrooms intermingle on the silky mid-palate. The finish is precise, with chalky tannins and long, lingering flavors.

Ratings & Reviews:

96 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
"Dense and suave aromas of cassis, lilac and caramel-topped toast show on the rich but elegant nose of this blend of 43% Grenache, 25% Mourvèdre and 15% Syrah, with small bits of Carignan, Cinsault, Graciano and Counoise. Chiseled tannins and a fresh acidity frame the palate, where lovely, dark and ripe fruit flavors meet with a copious helping of baking spice."

95 Points - James Suckling:
"This is so precise and fine-tannined with blackberries, black pepper, graphite and cloves. It’s full-bodied, yet tight and tensioned. Flavorful finish, yet it’s reserved at the very end. Beautifully curated Rhone blend. 43% grenache, 25% mourvedre, 8% carignan, 4% cinsault, 3% graciano and 2% counoise. Drink now." (Mar 2022)

94 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:
"More red and black fruits, ground pepper, aged beef, and leather emerge from the 2019 Ditch Digger, a blend of 43% Grenache, 25% Mourvèdre, 15% Syrah, 8% Carignan, and splashes of Cinsault, Graciano, and Counoise. This medium to full-bodied, round, expansive, sexy blend has supple tannins, no hard edges, and a great finish. Made by Anthony Yount, you can’t go wrong with any of these latest releases from Denner Vineyards. These are pure Paso Robles gold across the board." (9/26/2022)
