Notes from the Winemaker:
A blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot & 2% Malbec this 2022 shows surprising freshness and accessibility at such a young age and reveals a core of sweet plum tinged fruit along with already nicely integrated, yet structured tannins. Or, as winemaker, Peter Heitz more eloquently notes, "Aromatics of Bing Cherries, red cassis, and dusty blackberries lead to up-drifts of pepper and spice box. Silky black tea tannins and dimpled texture flow with linear movement across the mid-palate, highlighting freshness and brightness amidst a rich and dense dark fruit core.

Vineyards:
We focus on farming each vineyard to the highest quality with precision and tender care. At the conclusion of each vintage, we reflect on our practices, consider the cards we were dealt by nature, and evaluate these aspects in relation to the resulting young wines. Each vineyard lends its own voice and signature to this resulting blend: the fingerprint of the famous Fortuna Vineyard shines through, providing tart, darkening berries and spice box components; Leopoldina Vineyard provides structure and texture, along with lifting red tones. Amoenus Vineyard lends dark cherries and a mid-palate width; surrounding our historic winery, our Home Vineyard brings red fruit freshness and focus.

Tasting Notes:
Aromatics of Bing Cherries, red cassis, and dusty blackberries lead to up-drifts of pepper and spice box. A quintessential dirt-tobottle wine that highlights the best of Napa Valley.

92 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:

A value play in Napa Valley Cabernet, the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley offers sweet red and blue fruits, spicy oak, flowers, and hints of chocolate. Pure, beautifully balanced, and elegant on the palate, with medium body and fine tannins, it does everything right and will drink well for 6-8 years.

91 Points - James Suckling:
Savory and brooding aromas of blood plums, blackberry compote and sarsaparilla. The palate is lush, with firmly integrated tannins and acidity, giving notes of mocha, cedar and tobacco. A very drying and robust wine that will age nicely. Drinkable now, but best from 2028.

90 Points - Wine Spectator:
Shows the frankly ripe, juicy and up-front character of the vintage, with plum and cherry compote flavors leading the way, backed by red licorice and singed vanilla on the finish. There's just enough spine to keep this honest. Drink now through 2029.

90 Points - Decanter:
This red-fruited Napa Cabernet offers sweet baking spices and loads of toasty cedarwood up front. Medium-bodied, the palate is built on gentle tannins, framing juicy red berry fruit, brown spices, and a dusting of white pepper on the smooth, lingering finish. A polished, inviting wine with balance, warmth, and immediate appeal, yet with enough structure for mid-term cellaring. Aged 18 months in 100% French oak (25% in 600L puncheons, 75% in 225L barrels, with 23% new French oak, 77% seasoned French oak), this Cabernet is sourced from Fortuna Vineyard (41%) and Leopoldina Vineyard (35%) in Oakville, Amoenus Vineyard (15%) in Calistoga, and Turnbull Home Vineyard (9%) in Oakville, with a blend rounded out by 3% Petit Verdot and 2% Malbec.
