Notes from the Winemaker:
From 2 vineyards, one of which goes back to 1950! The Mosconi cru is exactly parallel to SorI Ginestra, albeit higher in altitude (averaging 400 meters, i.e. 1,312 feet) and less than a mile away. Surface under vine is 1.3 hectares (3.2 acres). Exposure is southeasterly and soil composition is 26% sand, 50% silt + 24% clay, rich in manganese, conducive to very high levels of polyphenols. Gradient is 30%. Barrique-aged 2 years, bottle-aged 1 year. In spite of Mosconi and SorI Ginestra's vicinity and identical methods in the winery and cellars, the Barolo Mosconi has characteristics of its very own, almost purely because of the distinct clones and age of vines.
Winemaker: Guido & Fabio Fantino

Ratings & Reviews
96 Points – James Suckling:
“Restrained and subtle with aromas of dried flowers, wax, licorice, blackberries and bitter orange peel. Fruit sweetness shines on the full-bodied palate, supple and concentrated, balanced by tingling acidity and firm, dusty, ripe tannins with a touch of oak. Modern in style but built for the long haul. Try from 2028.” (Jan 2026)
94 Points – Jeb Dunnuck:
“More medium-framed in style, the 2022 Barolo Mosconi Vigna Ped sports a softer profile and more polished tannins compared to the Ginestra Vigna del Gris, which leans more toward a Serralunga-esque sense of power. Aromatically, it’s more open and expressive at this stage, revealing cranberry, baking spice, delicate incense, and hints of orange peel. On the palate, it’s poised and graceful, with well-defined yet more cushioned tannins than the Sori Ginestra, giving it a finesse-driven feel. Coming from a 0.9-hectare site at 380-420 meters on calcareous sandy silt soils, it has a supple and approachable nature and is ready to drink now or over the next 10-12 years. Drink 2026-2040.” - Audrey Frick (Apr 2026)
94 Points - Wine Advocate:
"The Conterno Fantino 2022 Barolo Mosconi Vigna Ped (with just 5,280 bottles produced) is built on texture, ripeness, tannic structure and oak influence to create an intense, full-spectrum expression that delivers on every front, especially in terms of sheer concentration. From a tiny 0.98-hectare parcel at 380 to 410 meters in elevation, the wine reveals spicy notes of cinnamon stick and savory barbecue that ride across a fully developed palate with impressive richness and depth. At this youthful stage, the oak remains prominent, lending spicy, velvety tannins that will integrate with a few more years in bottle." - Monica Larner (Jul 2026)
92 Points – Vinous Media:
"The 2022 Barolo Mosconi Vigna Ped is a soft, open-knit wine, especially for this site where wines tend to be dark and more powerful. That suggests fruit did not ripen fully. Even so, the wine's balance is quite good, meaning the lighter extraction favored in this vintage was very well judged. In exchange, the 2022 will drink well with minimal cellaring." - Antonio Galloni (Jan 2026)
