About the Distillery:
Clynelish distillery is positioned on the eastern coast of Scotland's North Highland region, somewhat near Old Pulteney. Its malt is often said to be waxy, briny, and mildly peated. Although unconfirmed, the malt is rumored to be aged in both ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks.

A fascinating Special Release from Clynelish, which moves away from the distillery's classic waxy profile in favour of the rich, spicy, and darkly delicious world of sherry cask maturation. Specifically, this 12-year-old whisky was finished in Pedro Ximenéz and oloroso casks. It's also got the elusive Scottish wildcat, Felis Sylvestris, on the label as the distillery is located among its natural habitat.

  • An unusual Clynelish with just a slight trace of waxiness: the finishing casks have added sweetness and spiciness, developing the distillery character in an interesting way.
  • From depths of dark molasses, a radiant sweet-spice glows. Secondary maturation in PX/Oloroso Seasoned Casks.
  • Bright sweet fruitiness combines with intense oakiness to create a Clynelish of radiant sweet-spicy intensity.
  • Best served neat, pour 60ml of Clynelish 12YO in a whisky glass and enjoy.
  • Clynelish 12YO is a unique gift that stands out within the Special Releases collection, and is perfect for get-togethers with friends or family.

Tasting Notes:

APPEARANCE: Liquid sunlight. Bright gold.
BODY: Medium.
NOSE: Creamy top notes soon give way to light yet complex fruity and herbal aromas; subtle, understated suggestions of fruity mincemeat, tinned pears, even heather honey. Deeper still, spicy scents of oak preview a soaring intensity on the palate. A drop of water increases the herbal note, while also introducing a familiar waxy hint.
PALATE: A very smooth, mouth-filling texture introduces a lively taste that is rich and wine-sweet overall, the palate well-balanced by snarling peppery, oaky spice. A little water enhances the sweetness, steers the smoothness of the texture towards waxiness and rounds the flavors, which soon give way again to spicy heat.
FINISH: Quite long, chili-spiced, and appetizingly drying, with lingering pepper. A little water enhances the creamy-smooth texture and adds a little more spice.
