About the Winery:
Cloudy Bay Vineyards is one of the most famous producers of the Marlborough wine region on the South Island of New Zealand. It was established in 1985 as one of the first producers of Marlborough and today, the flagship Sauvignon Blanc is one of the country's most sought-after wines.

The winery has multiple vineyards in the Wairau Valley subregion of Marlborough, as well as an additional estate and cellar door in Central Otago, Marlborough has a strong maritime climate with some of the longest sunshine hours of anywhere in the country, ideal for ripening grapes with concentrated flavour compounds.

The estate was started in 1985 by David Hohnen, the founder of Cape Mentelle Vineyards in Western Australia's Margaret River region. Hohnen sold Cloudy Bay to Veuve Clicquot in 1990. In 2003, Veuve Clicquot was purchased by the multinational luxury group, LVMH.

About the Wine:
This is one of the key wines which spawned the international success of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. It is famed for its complex, vibrant aromas, mouthwatering acidity and long finish. It has the ability to age for a decade but is rarely cellared by consumers.

Fruit comes from the Rapaura, renwick and Brancott Valley zones of the Wairau Valley. Each parcel ferments separately before blending in order to achieve consistent quality. Hence quantities can vary each year.

Ratings & Reviews

92 Points - Wine Spectator:
"Stands out for its intensity, with ruby grapefruit, yuzu and lemon essential oil details, plus notes of fresh-clipped, aromatic herbs centered around lemon thyme on a sleek, juicy frame. Long, expressive finish. Drink now. 270,000 cases made, 85,000 cases imported." - MW (web only 2023)

91 Points - James Suckling:
Lime peel, sliced green pears, hints of asparagus and lemons. It's bright and crisp with a medium body. Refreshing, showing restraint and focus. Drink now. Screw cap." (Sep 2022)
