Notes from the Winery:
In an arid and magical place, French monks discovered “Eden’s Ladder”: Escala Dei (12th century). It was here that they made the Lord’s wine. In this very same arid place, 800 years later, a young French woman and a Catalan man found the place of their dreams: CLOS MOGADOR (1979). Isabelle and René: A two-step between the dancer and the sensitivity and determination of a poetic philosopher. She artfully designs the future, whilst he squeezes out the earth’s fruit! PHILOSOPHY: To us, the most important thing is the land, and making sure that the grapes grow in the most natural way possible. Our objective is to achieve balanced fields than can act with freedom. To achieve that we work with biodiversity and regenerative Biodynamic agriculture.
About the Vineyard:
The property where this magic occurs is called Miramar, located at 580m. above sea level. The vines are 100% Garnacha, mostly between 35-50 years old and some are even centennial. The soil is mostly red clay and has a bit of limestone. On the land, apart from vines, we can also find almond and apple trees and a small farmhouse.
Vintage Notes:
Great year when it comes to wine balance. One of the shortest vintages in quantity due to a record temperature in June, more than 45 degrees, which depending on which area, caused the loss of between 60 to 30% of the harvest. After this episode we had a perfect climate to be able to harvest and have one of the great vintages of our winery today.
The 2019 Com Tu is now part of the Clos Mogador portfolio even though it started as a small separate project from Anderson Barbier, who is now training to be a chef, so the project is continued by his brother, René. This is now the village wine from La Figuera (in Montsant) from the Mogador team. 2019 is a year of concentration but with very good acidity, and the wine shows the good Priorat (even if it's from Montsant!)—warm and ripe with careful extraction. The wine expresses a typical vintage in balance, showing the power the zone delivers. It's a very complete wine, still young and a little closed, a year like 2016 or 2013, that will grow with time in bottle. 2022-2028.
