About the Winery:
Château Suduiraut, ranked Premier Cru Classé in the original 1855 classification, is one of the great historic vineyards of Sauternes. A rigorous selection in the vineyard and in the cellars ensures the production of Château Suduiraut's wines, which are the accomplished expression of this exceptional terroir. The winery is owned by AXA Millésimes, the wine division of the French insurance group AXA, which acquired the estate in 1992.
The Château Suduiraut watches over a 91-hectare vineyard planted on sandy-clay gravel soils. The grape varieties are 90% Semillon and 10% Sauvignon Blanc. The wines are aged for 18 to 24 months in French oak barrels, 50% of which are new.
Ratings & Reviews
98 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:
"The 2017 Chateau Suduiraut is 94% Semillon and 6% Sauvignon Blanc, with 240 grams of residual sugar. It has rocking botrytis notes of honeyed citrus, orange blossom, white flowers, and caramelized peach. These carry to a full-bodied, beautifully pure, precise Sauternes that has good acidity, flawless balance, and just fabulous purity of fruit. It's a brilliant Sauternes." (Feb 2020)
97+ Points - The Wine Independent:
"The 2017 Suduiraut, with 150 g/L residual sugar, is pale lemon-gold in color. It needs a little coaxing before releasing a full array of gregarious grapefruit, honeyed peaches, and lemon curd inspired scents, followed by hints of sea spray, lime blossoms, yuzu, and coriander seed. The palate is super-intense, offering tight-knit citrus and stone fruit layers with a racy backbone of freshness and seductive creaminess, finishing with epic length." - Lisa Perrotti-Brown (Dec 2022)
97 Points - Vinous Media:
"Just as impressive as it was in barrel, the 2017 Suduiraut is positively dazzling. Pineapple, orange peel, crême brulée, white flowers, honey, apricot and hazelnut are some of the many nuances that develop in the glass. Rich and heady, yet also wonderfully vibrant, the 2017 is developing into a stunning Suduiraut. The 140 grams of residual sugar is very nicely integrated. Only the fruit from the last two picks made it into the Grand Vin." - Antonio Galloni (Mar 2020)
97 Points - James Suckling:
"Yum. Aromas of orange blossom, lemon curd, dried apricot and cooked pears fill the glass. It’s full-bodied and very sweet, yet tangy and lively from the vibrant acidity. Extremely long on the finish. Better in 2025, but already a joy to taste. (Dec 2019)
95 Points - Wine Advocate:
"More floral and elegantly perfumed than its 2015 and 2016 counterparts, the 2017 Suduiraut exhales aromas of white flowers, peaches, plums and ripe orchard fruits. Medium to full-bodied, round and enveloping with a delicate, fleshy core of fruit, it’s perfectly balanced with a stunning "rôti," the consequence of noble rot. It concludes with a long, penetrating and mineral-laden finish, showcasing the wine's youthful expressiveness. This blend of 94% Sémilllon and 6% Sauvignon Blanc contains 140 grams per liter of residual sugar and was matured for 18 months in a combination of new oak barrels and one-year-old barrels, split evenly." - Yohan Castaing (Jun 2024)
95 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
"Barrel Sample. Very concentrated, this is a great wine with rich intensity and balancing acidity. Honey and lemon flavors with a dry core of botrytis give the wine great balance as well as great potential for aging. Drink from 2025." - Roger Voss (Apr 2018)
94 Points - Wine Spectator:
"This is a step apart from the pack, featuring a range of papaya and mango fruit typical for the vintage, augmented by white peach, nectarine and Anjou pear flavors. Shows a gorgeous mouthfeel from start to finish, with light jasmine and orange blossom notes infused throughout. Ends with a seductive finish of warmed coconut and piecrust. Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc. Drink now through 2040. 5,833 cases made." - James Molesworth (Mar 2020)
