About the Winery:
Chateau Latour is situated in the heart of the Médoc wine region, about 50 km north-west of Bordeaux, where the legend of the vineyards of Bordeaux began. The Château’s prime terroir, l’Enclos, overlooks the Gironde estuary which, over the centuries, has given the vineyard its geological complexity and, on a daily basis, ensures a mild climate.
About the Wine:
Pauillac de Latour, Chateau Latour's third wine, has been made every year since 1989, and was developed primarily for the restaurant market. It offers an excellent introduction to the family of wines at Château Latour and receives the same meticulous attention as the estate’s other wines.
Merlot plays a larger role in the blend, while the careful inclusion of press wine contributes depth without compromising the wine’s pure fruit and refined texture. Although Pauillac de Château Latour is generally the most approachable of the Château’s three wines, it also rewards extended cellaring.
For the 2021 vintage, about 25% new barrels are used in the vinification of the Pauillac. Most of the wine was aged in one-year-old barrels, supplemented by two wooden vats and 10% aged in 300-liter barrels. The total élevage lasted 16 months.
The vines selected for the Pauillac receive the same attention from the winemakers as the rest of the estate’s plots. In the cellar, our team’s expertise gives a wine that is both intense and silky-smooth, with a vinification process that respects the elegant tannic structure characteristic of Château Latour and reveals pure fruit and a beautiful velvety texture. The Pauillac of Château Latour may seem more approachable than the other two wines produced at the Château, but it will benefit just as much from extended cellaring.
Blend: 60.9% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 11.1% Petit Verdot
Ratings & Reviews
93 Points - James Suckling:
"This red has a medium-to light-bodied palate with a lovely center of pretty ripe fruit and finely textured tannins that run the length of the wine. Light chocolate and hazelnut on the finish. Drink or hold." (Apr 2024)
91 Points - Jeff Leve, The Wine Cellar Insider:
"Bright, juicy currants supply the fruit and energy here to this medium-bodied, red berry-filled wine. Crisp and soft on the palate, and in the spicy, red currant-oriented finish, this is ready to go. You can enjoy this today and over the next 10-12 years. The wine is a blend of 60.9% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 11.1% Petit Verdot, 12.9% ABV. Drink from 2026-2037." (May 2026)
90 Points - Decanter Magazine:
"Cool and fresh blue fruit tones on the nose. Smooth - the tannins are so soft - this is a really easy going expression, juicy, salty strawberries with an element of chalkiness that makes it slightly less vibrant but still full of flavour. Relaxed. A great effort for a third wine from the challenging 2021 vintage. Has a very classic, cooling, savoury, good-with-food expression. Balanced and really harmonious. 70 IPT. 6.9% press wine. 24.2% of production." - Georgina Hindle (Feb 2026)
The Wine Independent:
"A blend of 60.9% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, and 11.1% Petit Verdot, Le Pauillac de Chateau Latour 2021 is medium to deep garnet-purple in color. It opens with fragrant, up-front scents of black raspberries and red cherries, followed by hints of black pepper, underbrush, clove oil, and powdered cinnamon. The light-bodied palate is bright and refreshing with crunchy red fruit and fine-grained tannins, finishing with a real skip in its step." - LPB (Apr 2024)
Jeb Dunnuck:
"A blend of 60.9% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, and 11.1% Petit Verdot raised 16 months in 30% new French oak with the balance in once-used barrels, the 2021 Le Pauillac De Château Latour is juicy and lively, with a medium-bodied, focused, elegant style as well as classic notes of cherries, sappy green herbs, and cedar. It's balanced, clean, and will have 15-20 years of prime drinking. This hit 12.9% natural alcohol. Drink 2026-2046." (Mar 2026)
