About the Chateau:
On a hillside at the entrance to Margaux, in the heart of the Médoc, Château Lascombes is a Second Growth from the 1855 classification with a long history, characterized by pioneering owners and a terroir that reflects all the characteristics of the appellation.  Since 2022, an ambitious family-oriented renewal has been underway with new owner Gaylon Lawrence, Jr., a lover of Bordeaux wines, and Axel Heinz, a highly respected winemaker who excelled in Tuscany for almost twenty years.

About this Wine:
Chevalier de Lascombes is the second wine of the renowned Château Lascombes, a Second Growth estate in the Margaux appellation of Bordeaux, France. It is crafted from younger vines and offers a more approachable, fruit-forward, and earlier-drinking alternative to the Grand Vin. Typically, it is a blend dominated by Merlot, providing a supple and elegant profile.

Blend 70% Merlot, 27% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot

Farming Sustainable and organic vineyard practices HVE certified 

Harvest From September 7 to October 9.  Hand harvesting in several passes, according to the level of maturity of the plots.  Meticulous sorting in the vines and in the vat room.

Vinification Gentle vinification by infusion. Maceration period from 20 to 30 days decided by daily tastings. Malolactic fermentation in barrels.

Alcohol 13.5% 

Yield 35 hl/ha 

Ageing 16 months in oak (100% 1 year used), barriques and foudres

"Lightly baked red cherries and sweet strawberries at first, but the slightly baked character gets blown off in the glass as you give it some time, revealing aromas of fresher red berries, hibiscus and minerals. "Quite a fragrant nose, really floral and heavily scented with black berry fruit and some red cherry notes. Crisp and chalky, this has a lovely fresh bite and tang to the strawberry fruit, more red on the palate with a clear, crystalline base of powdery minerality. A touch tense in terms of focus but there’s nice softness too, expanding slowly with a long length. An encouraging second wine with some underlying power. Clean and precise. A little toasted on the finish, graphite, cedar, coffee and dark chocolate. 3.70pH. A yield of 35hl/h. First vintage under director Axel Heinz. Julien Viaud consultant.
