About the Winery:
Château Giscours is a historic property in the Margaux appellation, with vines first planted in the 16th century. Since 1995, Château Giscours has entered a new era in its history following its acquisition by the Albada Jelgersma family.

Château Giscours is a Margaux wine made from 94 hectares of vines in production. A real jewel, the singularity of the terroir of Château Giscours lies in the presence of 3 deep Garonne gravel ridges which play a decisive role in the ripening cycle of the grapes.

About the Wine:

Château Giscours 2016 possesses all the qualities of a great Margaux

The year 2016 saw ideal climatic conditions for the production of a Grand Vin: a mild spring that allowed the vines to develop well, followed by a dry summer with moderate temperatures. Each grape was harvested at its peak, having reached optimal ripeness.

Château Giscours 2016 is an elegant, balanced wine with two great qualities that we particularly appreciate at Giscours: aromatic brilliance and great finesse of tannins.

Ratings & Reviews

96 Points - James Suckling:
"This has attractive, glossy, ripe red-plum and licorice aromas with cedar, flowers and red berries, as well as a stony edge. A very fragrant, cabernet-driven nose. The palate has elegance and grace with sleek and charming, balanced style and a discreet tannin structure that holds the finish long and fresh. A blend of 81 per cent cabernet sauvignon and 19 per cent merlot. Try from 2023." - JS (Jan 2019)

94 Points - Vinous Media:
"The 2016 Giscours is built around 81% Cabernet Sauvignon. It has a wonderful bouquet with pure blackberry, crushed violet and mineral scents, with exquisite delineation and poise. The palate is framed by fine tannins and a perfect line of acidity. Slightly grainy in texture, it boasts gentle grip, yet there is real intensity and focus here. The 2016 is only just beginning to open and should be cellared for several years. (Drink between 2030-2065) - Neal Martin (Apr 2025)

93 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:

"The 2016 Château Giscours is fabulous stuff, offering a beautiful, complex (and classic Margaux) perfume of smoke tobacco, black currants, truffly earth, and spring flowers. Finesse-driven, medium-bodied, and seamless on the palate, it has ultra-fine tannins and no hard edges, and is already drinking beautifully. Nevertheless, it’s going to benefit from 3-4 years of bottle age and cruise for 20-25 years or more. The blend of the 2016 is 81% Cabernet Sauvignon and 19% Merlot and it’s well worth a case purchase." - JD (Feb 2019)
