Notes from the Winemaker:
The Signature Cabernet Sauvignon has been the flagship wine for this winery for more than three decades. It is a benchmark for the long-lived hillside wines of the Napa Valley; full of structure and aging potential, yet seductively forward in its concentrated varietal character. The dry, rocky soils of Pritchard Hill produce small, intensely flavorful grapes. Crop thinning allows for full, even ripening and elevates flavor complexity.

Tasting Notes
Aromatically the wine jumps from the glass with notes of ripe black cherries, cassis, fine dark chocolate, as well as oak-influenced espresso, cinnamon, and clove. On the palate, the wine is full of ripe dark berries, and black currants, with spicey lingering flavors of nutmeg, anise, and smoked cedar.

82% Cabernet Sauvignon 9% Petit Verdot 7% Malbec 2% Merlot

Ratings & Reviews

97 Points - The Somm Journal:
"Nine different Cabernet clones joined forces for the 2022 Signature, a wine designated in what the winery offers only in extraordinary vintages. The final blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, includes Petit Verdot, Malbec, and Merlot in small quantities. Luscious, as expected, a bath of puréed black cherries and milk chocolate match with teeth-coating plum skin tannins. Spiced red tea, Italian herbs, and a trace of cinnamon-cedar are left behind on the long, silky finish."

95 Points - Jane Anson:
"Excellent quality, fresh and full of personality. Black cherry, sandalwood, rose bud, liquorice root, crayon, graphite, totally delicious. Love the expansion through the palate and the juicy finish, this is concentrated and powerful with silky tannins, super enjoyable. Philip Titus winemaker." -Jane Anson (Jul 2025)

95 Points - Wine Review Online:
"This Cabernet is yet another Chappellet 'Signature' that is worthy of the founder's autograph. It combines all the ripeness that Pritchard Hill offers with carefully selected barrels that impart layered spice tones that invite on the nose and intrigue in the mouth. It is of course structured to go long, yet it's fine to enjoy near term with a vigorous decanting. It is the sort of wine you will wish you could buy ten cases of and try a bottle once a month for ten years to enjoy its evolution every step of the way." -Rich Cook (Jun 2025)

94 Points - The Wine Independent:
"The 2022 Signature Cabernet Sauvignon is 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot, 7% Malbec, and 2% Merlot. Deep garnet-purple in color, after a little swirling, notes of cassis, blackberry preserves, and prunes slowly emerge from the glass, giving way to underlying tar, bay leaves, and crushed rocks hints. Full-bodied, the palate is coated with baked black fruits flavors and herbal accents, framed by firm, grainy tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing long and savory. 2025-2040." - LPB (Jan 2025)

93 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:
"A killer wine and great value, the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Signature reveals tons of cassis and darker, almost blue fruits intermixed with sappy spring flowers, crushed stone, and lead pencil nuances. Based on 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot, 7% Malbec, and 2% Merlot, it's balanced and medium to full-bodied, with beautiful tannins. This is a no-brainer purchase that will drink beautifully for 10-12 years." (Mar 2025)

92 Points - Wine Advocate:
"Well-priced for the quality, Chappellet's 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Signature serves up bold aromas of mocha, cassis and black cherries. In the mouth, it's full-bodied and packed with flavor, nicely concentrated and framed by supple tannins. It's not overripe—a real risk this vintage—but does have a pronounced mocha note on the lingering finish. " - Joe Czerwinski (Feb 2025)
