About the Winery:
Castiglion del Bosco is a wine estate which produces Brunello di Montalcino and was one of the founders of Brunello di Montalcino Consortium. It is located in the commune of Montalcino in the province of Siena, within the Val d'Orcia nature reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The estate of Castiglion del Bosco extends 2000 hectares (5000 acres), of which 62 hectares (152 acres) are cultivate with Sangiovese grape to produce Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, the single vineyard "Campo del Drago" Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, the "Millecento" Brunello di Montalcino Riserva and the Rosso di Montalcino DOC..

Tasting Notes:
Complexity, superb structure, and an inviting, mouth-filling palate are the hallmarks of this Sangiovese grown in the 42-hectare Capanna vineyard facing towards the Mediterranean sea. A garnet-flecked ruby red, it releases generous, emphatic fragrances classic to Sangiovese, developing a near-endless progression notable for its beautiful balance.

Ratings & Reviews

96 Points - James Suckling:
“This is really fine on the palate with wonderfully integrated tannins that give tension and focus. It’s medium-bodied with lovely berry, cherry, cedar and spice. Peaches and flower stems, too. Creamy texture. Extremely long and vivid. Structured, but showing beautiful drinkability with wonderful balance and form. One to drink or hold.” (9/23)

95 Points - Vinous Media:
“The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino is a gorgeous interpretation of Northwest Montalcino terroir, with a darkly alluring bouquet of sage and rosemary giving way to crushed blackberries and stone dust. This opens with a lovely inner sweetness, perfectly balanced by crisp red fruits, mineral tones and a core of vibrant acidity. It finishes grippy and long yet surprisingly fresh, with a staining of primary concentration that lingers on and on. The 2019 was fermented using 70% whole cluster fruit.” -EG (12/23)

94+ Points - Jeb Dunnuck:
“Deep ruby in color, the 2019 Brunello Di Montalcino opens to aromas of ripe cherries, toasted cedar, candied flowers, rosemary, and vanilla. Approachable and medium-bodied, it’s elegant on the palate, with fine tannins and a supple texture with even balanced acidity. It offers a very appealing weightless feel, with mineral underpinnings and notes of tangerine citrus on the palate. It is a very well styled and refined Brunello to enjoy over the coming 12-15 years." -AF (2/24)

94 Points - Wine Spectator:
"Cherry, plum, leather, earth and tomato leaf flavors highlight this broad, beefy red, with iron and sanguine accents creeping in as this winds down on the finish. Succulent and long, with a dusty grip in the end." -BS (6/24)

94 Points - Kerin O'Keefe:
"Aromas of forest floor, ripe dark-skinned berry, tobacco and hazelnut slowly take shape in the glass. Full-bodied and enveloping the palate also boasts a weightless concentration, featuring crushed raspberry, liquor-soaked cherry, blood orange and licorice before a minty close wrapped in the warmth of alcohol. Taut, fine-grained tannins provide support." (6/24)

94 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
The nose has the delicacy of mandarin blossoms, then tart bing cherries and sweet wild strawberries, strewn over top soil and sweet tobacco. The cherries are at perfect maturity on the palate, while that earth and smoke and spice lurk underneath. — Danielle Callegari

94 Points - Decanter:
Castiglion del Bosco's 2019 Brunello is fresh and bright, offering cherry aromas with a balsamic edge. Fine tannins support a soft and velvety palate with a savoury, salty undertone of green olives in brine overlaid with cherry and blood orange sapidity. The finish is really zingy and fresh – almost minty – with a lovely stony touch. There's more sapidity and salinity here compared to Campo del Drago, which is a richer, fuller-bodied bottling, and as with many 2019s, the wine is approachable in its youth yet offers years of drinking pleasure.
