Ratings & Reviews
94 Points - James Suckling:
"Aromas of blackberries and hazelnut. Full body, with slightly dried fruit character such as raisins and then turns to sliced citrus. Chewy finish. Very dense and rich. Intense. Better in 2015." (Feb 2013)
93 Points - Wine Spectator:
"Intense aromas and flavors of cherry, raspberry and rose highlight this pretty, supple red. Features a firm, refined structure for support, which should allow this to develop nicely. Offers excellent length, with a savory, minerally aftertaste. Best from 2015 through 2035." - BS (May 2013)
93 Points - Vinous Media:
"The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Castelgiocondo is a gorgeous, full-bodied wine with plenty of underying structure and terrific balance. Sweet red cherries, tobacco, flowers, mint and licorice all explode from the glass in a rich, full-bodied luscious style that is undeniably appealing. The 2007 Riserva captures the Castelgiocondo style at its best. Powerful and authoritative in style, the 2007 should offer rewarding drinking for the next 7-10 years, if not longer." - Antonio Galloni (Sep 2013)
93 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
"Sometimes an annata Brunello can score higher than the riserva expression from the same vintage. With that extra year of aging, the ripe fruit on the already very plump and fruity 2007 vintage has dropped a tiny notch in intensity. But the elegance, balance and complexity of the wine remains the same." (5/1/2013)
Ripe al Convento 2007 is an intense ruby-red with barely perceptible highlights that are almost garnet in tonality. The nose is characterised by notes of blackberry that quickly leave in their place intense and pleasant sensations of ground hazelnuts, rhubarb, and Cuban cigar; then spicy notes emerge of black pepper, cardamom and walnut, followed by fresh notes of thyme, tea leaves and juniper. Hints of underbrush and iodine. Entry on the palate is imperious, characterised by a dense and elegant structure well supported by generous, full body. The finish is merkedly long and balanced.
Wine pairing: Stews, plates of slowly cooked meats and aged cheeses
