Notes from the Winemaker:
Intense garnet red. Rich fruit, licorice, rose and violet with light toasty notes. Full and dry on the palate with soft, velvety tannins. Because of its structure and body, it pairs well with meat, game and cheese. Serve at a temperature of 17 °C (62.6 °F).

Variety: 100% Nebbiolo

Vineyard location and soil:
Vineyard located in Serralunga d’Alba. Helvetian soil, rich in very compact blue marl.
Altitude: 310-371 meters (1,017-1,214 feet)above sea level

Vinification:
Carefully selected grapes are destemmed and pressed. Maceration lasts about 20 days at a maximum temperature of 30 °C (86 °F). Malolactic fermentation ends before winter is over.
Aged 24 months partly in 25-hl Slavonian oak barrels and partly in French barrique. Further aged in bottle for at least 12 months.

Ratings & Reviews

94 Points - Vinous Media:
"The 2013 Barolo Cerretta is a bit more translucent but also more powerful than the Rapèt, which seems to also heighten the impression of acidity and tannin. Red cherry, cranberry, white pepper, mint and freshly cut flowers give the Cerretta its lifted, super-classic feel. The tannins need a few years to soften, but there is certainly plenty to look forward to. The Cerretta is a bit more classically austere in style than the Rapèt." - Antonio Galloni (Feb 2017)

93 Points - James Suckling:
"Aromas of plums and dried berries in addition to spices and cedar. Medium-bodied, firm and silky with a beautiful finish. Just a hint of new wood. Drink now or hold. Better in 2019. Great vineyard." (July 11, 2017)

92 Points - Wine Spectator:
"A menthol aroma segues into sweet cherry, leather, stone and tobacco notes in this tightly wound red, with a hint of rose. Remains linear and long, with an austere, tannic finish. Patience required. Best from 2024 through 2042. 400 cases made." - BS (Oct 2017)

90 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
"This opens with inviting aromas of dark berry, cedar and a whiff of mocha. The tight palate offers raspberry jam, clove, espresso and licorice alongside austere, somewhat astringent tannins that leave a firm finish. Drink after 2023." - KK (5/1/2018)
