Notes from the Winemaker:

BARBARESCO “SORI RIO SORDO” DOCG: The name means the “sunny side” of the Rio Sordo terroir. 100% Nebbiolo Michet planted in 1969, aged 12 months in 25 hl barrels and a small quantity in barrique, with an additional 10 months in bottle. This noble red has the richness and concentration of its southerly exposure. A Riserva version of the this wine is also avaialable.

Beautiful garnet with orange hues, the bouquet is complex, ample and ethereal, with touches of wild roses, violets and licorice. Lush flavors and silky texture caress the palate, expressing the finest Barbaresco traits. Wonderful after just one year in bottle, it unfolds to increasing levels of richness and magnificence, so if you can, do wait 3 to 15 years before enjoying it – longer in the case of outstanding vintages, whose peak comes after some 20 years.

Ratings & Reviews

93 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2008 Barbaresco Sori’ Rio Sordo wafts from the glass with an enticing array of dried flowers, sweet mountain herbs and worn-in leather. This is a touch fleeting next to the Chiaramonti but it possesses lovely balance in an understated style. This is another strong showing from Ca’ Rome. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2023." - Antonio Galloni (Oct 2011)

91 Points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar:
"Good medium red. More aromatic on the nose than the 2009, showing a strong mineral component to go with the red cherry, raspberry and flowers. Fresh and pretty in the mouth, with firm acids and tannins sharpening the flavors of red cherry, flowers and spices. Finishes with very good length. Lovely Barbaresco." - Stephen Tanzer (Nov/Oct '11)

91 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine:
"This exudes cherry, licorice and saline flavors matched to a texture that's almost chewy. Well put together, with plenty of structure for aging. Best from 2014 through 2027." –BS (Dec 31, 2011)

90 Points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (2009 vintage):
"Good medium red. Wild red fruits and rose petal on the perfumed nose and palate. Intensely flavored and very well delineated; still a touch of reduction but this is much fresher than the Chiaramanti. Broader than the 2008 but elegant as well. An attractive midweight with ripe, harmonious acidity." - Stephen Tanzer (Nov/Oct '11)
