About This Wine:

A selection of the finest Nebbiolo grapes, which are left on the vines an extra 15 days for additional concentration. This wine is so special Romano has chosen to dedicate it to his mother, Maria di Brun... who first taught him to make quality a rule, in life and wines. Romano's flagship Barbaresco is magnificently rich, layered, chewy, elegant and flavorful. Solely released in great years. Note: Maria di Brun is pictured on the label.

Tasting Notes:
Incredible concentration and breed. Beautiful, deep garnet color. Very intense, persistent bouquet, complex, ample + elegant, w/notes of violets + brushwood. Full-bodied, velvet texture, hallmark breeding, personality and balance; a deeply satisfying, long. Best decanted at least 1 hr beforehand, and served with rich, structured dishes, red meat, game, seasoned cheeses.

Ratings & Reviews

92 Points - James Suckling:
"Tea, sandalwood and plum aromas here. It’s full-bodied, with wonderfully integrated, silky tannins and a long, long finish. Nicely made for the vintage in Barbaresco. Better in 2017." (April 18, 2014)

91 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2010 Barbaresco Maria di Brun immediately shows the elegance of the vintage with a profound sense of berry, dried herb and loads of mineral layering. Nebbiolo in 2010 tends to favor elegance and length over brawn and power and this wine does a great job of underlying that aspect. The overall results are compact, linear, polished and well suited for long-term cellaring. Drink: 2016-2028." - Monica Larner (Jul 2014)

94 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (2009 vintage):
"The 2009 Barbaresco Maria di Brun is a sassy and sophisticated interpretation of Nebbiolo with darkened hues of Spanish cedar and mahogany backed by firm accents of licorice, tar, cola, red rose petal, dried herb and white pepper. What sets this wine apart is not only its intensity, but the extreme focus and purity in which it presents itself. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2028." - Monica Larner (Jun 2013)

91+ Points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (2008 vintage):
"Good deep red. Aromas of cherry liqueur, sour cherry and tobacco. Tightly wound and backward, with strong acidity and substantial tannins giving this a texture and structure very different from this producer's other 2008 Barbarescos. I'm not sure it has the class of the last two but it certainly has concentration and the backbone to last. Finishes juicy, dry and long." - Stephen Tanzer (Nov/Oct '11)

93 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine (2007 vintage):
"There's depth to this red, from the high-toned floral notes to the sweet licorice and leather bass tones, with plum and cherry in the midrange. The firm tannins are ripe and offer support. This cruises to a long finish. Best from 2014 through 2027." –BS (Dec 31, 2011)

91 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (2007 vintage):
"The 2008 Barbaresco Maria di Brun comes across as a bit faded in this vintage. Sweet rose petals, cherries, dried herbs, fennel and licorice emerge from the Maria di Brun. Today the wine’s structure and density suggest it is best enjoyed sooner rather than later. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017." - Antonio Galloni (Oct 2011)
