About This Wine:
This is the latest addition to the Marengo range, though from a very old single vineyard. The latter was planted in 1978 and recently purchased by Romano and his family: their first vintage was 2006. A deep garnet gem in the truest Barbaresco style.
One vineyard of 0.5 hectares, i.e. 1.2 acres, planted in 1978; training is Guyot, exposure southerly, altitude c. 920 feet, 280 meters. Soil is silty-marlaceous, highly erosive & rich in calcareous clay, magnesium, manganese & zinc.
Tasting Notes:
Deep garnet with crimson reflections, rich bouquet of licorice, red berries, brushwood, violets, cinnamon and cloves confirmed on a full, well balanced palate showing complex flavors of ripe fruit and a persistent finish. Best decanted an hour beforehand and served at 16-17° C (60.8-62.6° F) with important, structured dishes, red meat, game, seasoned cheese.
Ratings & Reviews
94 Points - Antonio Galloni:
"The 2011 Barbaresco Chiaramanti is a drop-dead gorgeous beauty. Rose petal, mint sweet red berries and spices open up in a resonant Barbaresco loaded with texture and volume. The 2011 Chiaramanti is one of the most expressive wines I have ever tasted at Ca' Rome'. The ample, broad style is hugely appealing. Silky, ripe tannins frame the voluptuous finish." (Oct 2014)
