About the winery:
Capezzana is located in the DOCG region of Carmignano, 12 miles west of Florence. Next to the Chianti district, Carmignano is Tuscany's smallest and oldest DOCG. Wine has been produced from this region since the days of the Etruscans, although today the region actually requires the addition of Cabernet Sauvignon to its wines (rather peculiar for Italy). The winery's history is almost as long - during the Renaissance, the property was controlled by the Medici family. Today, Tenuta di Capezzana accounts for 70 percent of the DOCG wines produced in the area, and the property is run by the Bonacossi family - son Filippo runs the vineyards, daughter Bernadetta makes the wine, and (Countess) Beatrice handles commercial matters.

Ratings & Reviews
"Very fresh aromas to this wine with currants, stones and violets that follow through to a full body, ultra-fine tannins and a stone, oyster shell, blackberry and light nutmeg aftertaste. Drink now or hold." (Oct 2014)
92 Points - Vinous Media:
"The estate's 2008 Ghiaie della Furba is a huge wine. Black cherries, plums, smoke, licorice, incense and menthol burst from the glass in an explosive, full-bodied wine loaded with personality. The French oak remains quite prominent at this stage. Still, there is plenty of potential here. With a little less oak, though, this might be a truly spectacular wine. Ghiaie della Furba is a Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot/Syrah blend." - Antonio Galloni (Aug 2013)
91 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine:
"A wiry red, evoking cherry, anise, cigar box and herb notes. Lacks flesh, with the tannins leaving a mouthcoating but not overly dry finish. Balanced overall and built for the long haul. Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot. Best from 2016 through 2028. 2,800 cases made." - BS (Aug 2014)
