About This Winery:
Since 1987 Cantine Colosi has been producing native Sicilian wines. Consisting of 24 acres of vineyards in Salina, a small island in the Eolian Archipelago, Colosi occupies an area of the island recognized for both its orientation and for the physical-chemical nature of the soil whose volcanic origins are particularly suitable for vine cultivation. The new winemaking cellar, surrounded by the Malvasia vineyards, was completed in 2004. The winery is located underground in order to have a constant temperature for the optimum care of the wine and to respect the strict preservation rules of the Eolian archipelago. With three generations of experience, Colosi is led by enologist Pietro Colosi in collaboration with his father Piero..
About this wine:
"Austere. Dressed in a rough habit considered sacred, their heads bowed and their posture austere during the religious procession. The Batù, laymen belonging to the brotherhood of the same name."
A Barbaresco with a mysterious charm, boasting a beautiful, bright garnet color. The bouquet is intense, ethereal, and spicy. Upon opening, it reveals dried rose, dried cherry, and red fruit jam, followed by explosive notes of cinnamon, cloves, allspice, and tobacco, and a hint of vanilla and cedar on the finish. The flavor is dry, vigorous, and balanced: in short, complex yet delicate. The tannins are well-integrated and supple.
Ratings & Reviews
91 Points - James Suckling:
"This is juicy and mouth-filling with a medium body and very fine, almost dusty tannins. Vibrant notes of cherries, raspberries, cocoa, cedar and hints of ground spices. Fine-textured and even on the palate, with a spiced, cedary aftertaste. Vegan. Sustainable. Drink or hold. - JS (July 2024)
