About this Wine:
Uccelliera is without any doubt one of the top estates of Montalcino, producing Brunello and Rosso that are complex, intense, extremely supple and drinkable. The Uccelliera estate was at once part of neighboring Ciacci Piccolomini until 1986, when winemaker Andrea Cortonesi purchased it from his friends and former employers; his first vintage was 1991. To produce Brunello and Rosso by blending vineyards with different exposures and soils is a specific choice so that the character of each vintage and of the terroir can be expressed following a "minimum handling" philosophy. The wines have quickly become cult favorites amongst the cognoscenti.
Ratings & Reviews
"The 2009 Brunello di Montalcino is a fleshy and meaty wine that carries its weight and concentration with grace. The wine oozes personality with a long succession of fruit, herbal and dark spice sensations that leave a lasting impression. Fruit is harvested from the Castelnuovo dell’Abate area and is aged in oak for 36 months. Drink: 2016-2025." - Monica Larner (Feb 2014)
"Good deep red. Luscious aromas of blueberry syrup, red cherry jam, licorice and sweet pipe tobacco. Ripe, lush, deep and quite suave, but also with very good lift to the red cherry, licorice and balsamic spice flavors. Softly structured and superripe but conveys a sense of balance and manages to remain this side of over the top. Very rich and long on the aftertaste." - Ian d'Agata (Jul 2014)
90 Points - Wine Spectator:
"Offers an attractive mix of floral, cherry, cedar and licorice aromas and flavors, backed by a spine of tannins and acidity. Still compact on the finish, but finds equilibrium in the end. Should come around nicely. Best from 2016 through 2028. 1,500 cases made, 900 cases imported." - BS (Jun 2014)
