About This Wine:
Padrone is dedicated to Ray Signorello Sr., a visionary whose dreams came to a reality in our wines at Signorello, and whose life was as full of character as our wines. Padrone is a wine that expresses the quality and dignity of Signorello Estate and is a fitting tribute to the life of Raymond Signorello Sr.

Our stunning hillside vineyard along Silverado Trail provides a variety of exposures allowing us to create wines with increased complexity. The grapes for this proprietary red wine "PADRONE" are sourced from two extremely rocky parts of our estate vineyard with yields of only a mere 1.3 tons per acre.

Tasting Notes
The 2008 Padrone shows deep, expressive aromas of blackberry, mocha, cinnamon and warm earth. On the palate, intense flavors of ripe fruit are structured by beautifully integrated tannins that are wound around a core of deep sweetness, driven by wild berry and earth notes. This wine will improve in the bottle for the next 14-18 years.

Winemaking Notes
Traditional French winemaking practices, native yeast fermentations, extended maceration (each lot averaged 25 days on the grape skins) and pump-overs three times a day. The 2008 vintage aged for 20 months in 70% new Troncais, Nevers and Alliers oak (thin-staved, medium-plus toast Chateau Ferre barrels). Tonnelleries: Seguin Moreau, Radoux, and Sylvain-Doreau. To preserve fruit intensity and body, the wine was not filtered prior to bottling on June 28, 2010.

Ratings & Reviews

93+ Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"Signorello's flagship wine, the 2008 Padrone Proprietary Red, is a blend of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Merlot. Its dense ruby/purple color is accompanied by a more projected and intense aromatic profile consisting of charcoal, forest floor, underbrush, black currants and plums. Full-bodied, rich, dense and concentrated, it seems more approachable than the Cabernet Sauvignon, but there is also much more to it. This big, promising red will be better in 3-5 years and should last for two decades. - Robert Parker (Dec 2010)

91 Points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar:
"(an 89/11 blend of cabernet sauvignon and merlot, from "the rocky parts" of the estate vineyard): Full ruby-red. Pure but subdued nose offers blackberry, violet, licorice and sexy oak tones. Dense, suave and supple, with lovely layered depth to the musky dark berry flavors. Good mineral lift gives this wine a restrained sweetness. Spreads out nicely on the back end, which features classy tannins and building oakiness." - Stephen Tanzer (May 2012)

90 Points - Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
"Few wines in the world are richer than this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. It's extraordinarily powerful in ripe, concentrated raspberry, cherry and blackberry jam, liberally oaked. Soft and velvety, it seems designed to appeal to sheer hedonism, at the cost of ageability. Drink up." - SH (12/15/2011)

90 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine:
"Perfumed Cabernet aromas of ripe plum, cedar, mineral, loamy earth and tobacco are complex in this full-bodied red, which is dry, savory and very appealing, tapering off on the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Drink now through 2019. 215 cases made." - JL (11/15/2011)
