About the Wine:

The grapes which arrive in the cellar are chosen on a selection table, and during the wine making process they undergo a very delicate treatment of pumping over and delestage. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel containers at a controlled temperature of approximately 28°-30°. The wine remains in contact with the skins for approximately 25-30 days. It then immediately goes into barrique with percentages of new wood of approximately 20-30%, depending on the characteristics of the year.

The grapes are harvested manually, starting in the first 15 days of September with the harvest of the Merlot; in the second half of September, the Cabernet Franc is harvested; and lastly, the Cabernet Sauvignon is harvested in the first 15 days of October.

Ratings & Reviews

93 Points - Wine Spectator:
"The sweet black currant and black cherry fruit flavors are framed by cedar, licorice and saline mineral elements in this rich, supple red. Displays plenty of structure, with the firm tannins buried by ample flesh. Fine length. Best from 2014 through 2024. 1,650 cases made." – BS (May 31, 2013)

93 Points - James Suckling:
"I like the aromas of walnuts and blackberries with hints of coffee beans. Full body, with soft and velvety tannins and a delicious sweet berry aftertaste. Delicious now. But will improve with age in the bottle." - (August 29th, 2012)

91 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
"Castello di Bolgheri enjoys some of the most coveted vineyard sites that are located a stone’s throw away from the Bolgheri castle tower. The blend is Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, and it delivers black fruit aromas, backed by wet earth, button mushroom and leather notes. It feels plush, yet structured." - M.L. (4/1/2013)
