Notes from the Winemaker:
Deep purple/black color. Explosive aromas of ripe currant, red berries and smoked notes. Rich, powerful and voluminous on the attack, a huge mouthful of creme-de-cassis concentration, silken and juicy in the mid-palate with excellent length and persistence, and a long spicy well-balanced finish including toasted notes provided by the French wood.

Food Pairing:
Rices with meat, stewed meat, stewed vegetable, mushroom, poultry, sauces fish, smoked seafood, blue and cured cheese, red meat, roast and baked meat.

Winemaking:
Grapes used to produce this wine come from old vineyards. Chalky and stony soils, poor in nutrients, are ideal for the growing of the Monastrell variety, with a low yield of about 2.500 kg/Ha. This wine has been matured in contact with French wood.

Ratings & Reviews

93 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2019 Juan Gil (silver label) was produced with Monastrell grapes from their own old, non-irrigated vines fermented in stainless steel and matured in French oak barrels for around 12 months. It has 15% alcohol and a pH of 3.67, but somehow the wine does not come through as overripe; they eliminate all the raisins with their new optical sorting machine and that makes very clean wines and has increased the precision. They also reduced the toast of their barrels and that increases the integration of the oak with the fruit. Varietal, juicy, soft and very drinkable." - LG (4/22)

16 / 20 Points - Jancis Robinson:
100% Monastrell. Organic viticulture. A vineyard of 350 hectares located at 700 m and on very gravelly calcareous soils. Made in stainless-steel vats, then aged for 12 months in French oak barrels. The wine is racked again to stainless steel before being bottled.

Very ripe black fruit, sweet spices, concentration and richness of aromas. Ample palate, integrated tannin that blends with quite prominent black fruit. Sweet finish. Modern and set in very toasty oak. The characteristic New World style that has triumphed internationally.  Drink 2022-2028. (FC)
