Notes from the Winemaker:
The wines of Alto Moncayo are crafted to express the unique terroir of windswept high elevation Campo de Borja DO; and to serve as a benchmark for world class Old Vine Garnacha. The vineyards in Tabuenca and Borja are planted with indigenous clones of Garnacha starting in the 1920s.

‘Veraton’ is the third wine we produce from the Garnacha grape, from vines between 30 and 50 years old, and aged in barrels for 16 months. It is a wine with an attractive collection of balsamic notes, of chocolate and black fruits, very warm in the mouth and an extremely pleasant finish.

Ratings & Reviews

93 Points, "Exceptional" - Tastings.com:
"Burnt sienna color. Aromas and flavors of chocolate covered cherries, leather, sweet cherry tobacco, and dark roast coffee with a round, crisp, dryish medium body and a warming, interesting, medium-length finish with accents of cherry mole sauce, fig jam, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and and leather with medium tannins and light oak flavor. Bold and ripe with well integrated oak; sure to be a crowd pleaser."

92 Points - James Suckling:
Slightly tarry on the nose with roasted spices to the dark cherries and strawberries. Medium to full body on the palate with more innate fruit allures and tannins. Shows good balance and length with some fine-grained tannins. Drink or hold.

91 Points - Wine Spectator:
“An elegant red, with a dark fruit core of boysenberry coulis, black plum reduction and dried fig buoyed by fresh, well-cut acidity. Delivers an appealing range of star anise, mocha, dried mint and rose hip notes that add detail and complexity, while lightly chalky tannins firm the graphite- and spice-laced finish. Drink now through 2028. 3,800 cases imported.”
