About the Domaine:
In 1818, Nicolas François Billecart and his wife Elisabeth Salmon founded the house of Billecart-Salmon in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, which now stands as the oldest continuously family-owned and operated house in Champagne. The estate is currently managed by the family’s seventh generation, brothers François and Antoine Roland-Billecart, while the cellars lie in the hands of Florent Nys.

After 33 years, François Domi has handed over the baton of Chief Winemaker to Florent, who has been working as an apprentice under the watchful eye of François since 2005, is now ready to take over the reins.

Notes from the Winemaker:
The blend is composed of:
  • 40% Pinot Meunier from the Vallée de la Marne and the slopes of Epernay
  • 30% Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims and the Grande Vallée de la Marne
  • 30% Chardonnay from select favorite crus
The final wine is composed of 3 vintages with up to 40% reserve wine. It is produced completely with first press juice. The wine undergoes a long, low-temperature vinification to preserve freshness and aromas all in stainless steel. It is then aged 3 years on the lees to ensure perfect quality upon release.

On the palate, the wine possesses crunchy stone fruits, such as white peach and pear. gripping acidity, and a touch of biscuits.

Ratings & Reviews

95 Points - The World of Fine Wine:
“Fine, elegant straw color with light gold highlights. A great spectacle of filigreed lace-like bubbles, persistent but subtle. Fragrant aromas of apple blossom, with a hint of toasted brown bread. Ripe pear and peach on the mouth-filling yet very elegant palate. The quality of the exceptional 2012 base wine is striking. As good as it gets." (February 2017)

95 Points - Decanter Magazine:
"A fine straw-gold colour with great finesse of bubble flow and mousse. Joyful aromas of apple blossom and ripe pear. A full, defined palate demonstrates richness that will help to give this a long life in the cellar." - Michael Edwards (February 2017)

91 Points - James Suckling:
"Plenty of ripe strawberries and wild raspberries on the nose here. Really attractive and vibrant in the mouth with fresh wild strawberries. It also shows a fleshy, fresh-fruit texture. Drink now." (July 2018)

91 Points - Wine Spectator:

"A well-knit Champagne with a citrusy, orange peel overtone and a lithe backbone of acidity enlivening flavors of cherry and apricot fruit, grated ginger, pastry and minerally saline. Creamy finish. Drink now through 2023. " - AN (Dec 15, 2020)

91 Points - Wine & Spirits Magazine:
"This blend includes 40 percent pinot meunier, the balance equal parts pinot noir and chardonnay. Its remarkable fruitiness might be tied to the firm’s long, slow, cool fermentations, which, they believe, allow meunier to maintain its perfume. This is a graceful, vinous Champagne with dramatic high notes of roses and red fruit, finishing clean with a grounding of pale earthiness. It’s a lovely prediction of what Champagne might become in a warming climate." (April, 2020)

90 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"Based on the 2015 vintage and disgorged with nine grams per liter dosage, the latest release of Billecart's NV Brut Réserve contains fully 55% reserve wines and is showing very well, offering up complex aromas of warm bread, crisp green orchard fruit and citrus oil. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied and charming but lively, with an elegantly textural attack, a fleshy core of fruit and lively balancing acids." - William Kelley (August, 2019)

90 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
"The cuvée from this great Champagne producer is dry, fruity with a fine line of minerality. That is balanced by the apple and crisp citrus-fruit flavors coming together in a vibrant, textured wine. Drink now." - Roger Voss (12/1/2020)

90 Points - Vinous Media:
"(40% pinot meunier, 30% pinot noir and 30% chardonnay; L200352): Light, bright gold. Fresh red berries, orange zest and white flowers on the perfumed nose. Juicy and precise, offering energetic redcurrant and blood orange flavors that show good concentration and a supple texture. A mineral nuance adds bite to the finish, with the floral note echoing." - Josh Raynolds (Dec 2013)
