Notes from the Distillery:
A sip of bourbon, like any conversation worth indulging in, feels fleeting in real time but lingers in the memory and has lasting effects. Basil Hayden Toast brings complexity and deeper flavor to any table, no matter where the conversation takes you.

This 80 proof whiskey consists of an entirely new mashbill, replacing the traditional rye grain with brown rice, which adds a hint of sweetness and a touch less spice with increased depth of flavor that comes from secondary aging in a toasted then flash-charred oak barrel.

Tasting Notes:

Nose: Toasted oak complemented by dried fruit and caramelized sugar

Palate: Toasted wood and vanilla with a light mouthfeel

Finish: Sweet caramel

"Made with brown rice and finished in toasted barrels. Cereal grains with freeze-dried strawberries on the nose as well as toasted herbs, blueberries, and fruity bubble gum. The palate is creamy and light, with notes of strawberry yogurt, bitter chocolate, and burnt sugar. A syrupy finish brings custard, tiramisu, and caramel flan...demonstrates good constriction and drinkability."

"Utilizing a new brown rice mashbill and undergoing a toasted barrel finish has created an approachable bourbon thanks to a cohesive flavor profile and overall softness.
I have no reservations calling it the best Basil Hayden release yet...I don’t doubt this release will strike a chord with many whiskey drinkers." - Breaking Bourbon

"I’m pleased to report that Toast is pretty damn solid. The nose connotes an immediate sweetness, evoking a significant apple-heavy fruitiness alongside honey and Christmas spice notes that immediately feels festive. An edge of barrel char adds some savory-ness, but this is gentle, the holiday character really dominating the experience. The palate is sweet, with a more traditional peanut and popcorn bourbon note leading the way, again quite sweet with notes of honey and butterscotch emerging in short order. Hints of orange peel and fresh melon give the body some nuance, pushing through to a finish that remains fruit-forward, hinting slightly at sweet cereal and, who knows, maybe a hint of brown rice. All told it’s one of my favorite Basil Hayden releases to date." – Drinkhacker
