About the Winery:

The vineyard of Aussières extends over 167 hectares on the foothills of Fontfroide, south of Narbonne. The soil is very shallow and stony on the high slopes, and sandier and deeper on the plains. In some lots, blocks of pink sandstone outcrop and hinder mechanical work.

Initially, the nose presents oak and roasted notes from the barrel ageing, it then becomes more complex with a hint of cloves and liquorice. On the palate, the attack is reserved but very refined offering notes of black fruit and spices. This year’s blend of Mourvèdre, Syrah, Grenache, and Carignan, gives the wine a very elegant tannic structure. Well-integrated notes from the barrel ageing mingle harmoniously in a long, lingering finish.

Blend: 48% Syrah, 37% Mourvèdre, 8% Grenache, 7% Carignan

Ratings & Reviews:

95 Points - Decanter:
"A really good example of warm, ripe fruit from the south of France with good integration of oak, lots of red fruit and chocolate character. No rusticity here, generous and very appealing. Dark cherry notes, a hint of floral characters on the finish. Drink 2021-2035."

93 Points - James Suckling:
This is the best wine I had from this producer. Shows such finesse and depth with a linear focus and intensity. Medium to full body, dense fruit and a beautiful finish. Fruity and tight. Gorgeous. A blend of syrah, mourvedre and grenache. Drink or hold

92 Points - Falstaff Magazine:
Dark ruby, violet tints, delicate bright rim. With fine herbal savouriness underlaid with black fruit of blackberries and liquorice, floral nuances, discreet noble wood touch. Juicy, balanced, pickled cherries, pleasant dress of tannin, fine nougat, already well developed, a multi-faceted food wine.

91 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:

"This outpost of the Lafite Rothschild family has turned out a potentially outstanding 2016 Corbières. Forty percent of the wine is aged in oak, giving this prospective blend a glossy sheen of vanilla, pencil shavings and a linear palate relative to most Corbières. This medium to full-bodied assemblage of 48% Syrah, 37% Mourvèdre, 8% Grenache and 7% Carignan does show plenty of raspberry fruit and a long, silky finish, and it should be longer-lived than many less-structured neighbors."

90 Points - Wine Spectator:
"Peppery on the nose, featuring fresh blackberry, plum and dark cherry notes flanked by graphite and spice accents. Moderate tannins support the hot stone and herb details on the finish."
