About the Winery: 
When the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino was established in 1967, Nello Baricci was already a real pioneer in the history of Montalcino, having been born in Montalcino in 1921 and producing wines there for many years. His was the first signature and he received badge #1. Moreover he registered the 1st hectare of Brunello at the Chamber of Commerce in Siena. His first "official" bottle of Rosso di Montalcino was produced in 1968 and the first Brunello in 1971. Today Baricci is the only producer to have all his vineyards in the Montosoli "Grand Cru" area and the estate is now managed by Nello's grandsons, Federico and Francesco.

Aging: 10 months in Slavonian oak followed by 4 months in bottle

Alcohol: 14%

Tasting Notes: Deep ruby red color. The bouquet on the nose is rich and complex with aromas of violets, red berries, such as raspberry and red currant, and a fresh hint of red orange. On the palate it is dry, fresh, full- bodied with smooth tannins. Very long and tasty finish, with a pleasant minerality and flavors of violets and berries.

Food Pairings: Ideal with first dishes with meat sauce, soups, roasted and grilled red meats. Excellent with tasty and seasoned cheeses.

Do not make the mistake of thinking this is just a "Rosso." Because Baricci’s entire estate lies within the Montosoli cru, this is effectively declassified Grand Cru Brunello. In the 2024 vintage—a year defined by a hot July but a miraculously cool, even ripening season in August and September—the northern exposure of Montosoli was the magic ticket. While others struggled with heat, Baricci retained vibrant acidity. The nose is a high-toned explosion of wild strawberries, crushed rock, and fresh rose petals. On the palate, it offers a "crunchy" tension and saline minerality that you rarely find in a Rosso. It is electric, savory, and undeniably serious.

"Baricci always makes one of the best Rossos in the denomination and the estate's 2023 doesn't disappoint. It opens with heady scents of violet, lavender, red berry and spice that on the savory palate transform into ripe juicy cherry, white pepper, star anise and orange zest.
