About the Winery:
The Maresh family has had a long and memorable presence in the Dundee Hills. In 1980 Jim and Loie’s daughter, Martha, married Fred Arterberry, Jr. who was one of the first winemakers in Oregon to have a degree in fermentation science from the University of California at Davis. Fred Arterberry was one of the early pioneer winemakers the 1970’s and produced many highly acclaimed wines from the Maresh Vineyard. In 1983 Martha and Fred had a son, Jim. His father’s winery label — Arterberry — closed upon Fred’s death in 1990. Beginning in 2005 Jim founded his own winery, Arterberry Maresh.
Raised on his family’s farm since he was born has given Jim a strong connection to and appreciation of the Red Hills of Dundee. He knows the vineyards, the neighbors and the various seasons and vintages that challenge and reward each grape grower and winemaker. His is a deep history of family, farming and winemaking. His wines reflect that heritage and the experience of three generations farming since 1959.”
Ratings & Reviews
97 Points - Vinous Media:
"The 2023 Chardonnay Maresh Vineyard seduces with a burst of crushed flint stones, dusty sage, nectarine and gingery spice. Its textures are otherworldly, nearly oily yet sleek, with a sour citrus nervousness that excites the palate as opulently ripe apricot seWles of the senses. Despite its weight and intensity, this 2023 Chardonnay leaves the palate reeling with tension, salty and lime intense, with a strong mineral resonance that adds las@ng crunchiness. Gorgeous today yet balanced for a long evolution." - Eric Guido (Jul 2025)
96 Points - Decanter:
"One of the most talented winemakers in the Dundee Hills goes by the name of Jim Maresh, helming the family estate as the second generation. This Chardonnay, one could argue his speciality, is from a small block of Wente clone Chardonnay planted in 1983. From it, he crafts a wine of seriousness and heft. Exotic spices, wild grasses and chamomile aromas meld with notes of ripe pear and peach. The palate threads a needle between salty minerality and rich notes of pulpy ripe Meyer lemon, savoury flourishes of verbena and thyme and rich, almost viscous ripe stone fruit flesh. 2025-2037."
94 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2023 Chardonnay Maresh Vineyard was matured in 25% new oak plus an additional six months in stainless steel. It has understated aromas of apricot, panna cotta, beeswax, cereal and flint. The light-bodied palate has a silky texture and alluringly creamy, honey-nut flavors. It’s balanced by mouthwatering acidity and has a long, perfumed finish. 2025-2040." -EB (12/25)
94 Points - Wine Spectator:
"Precise and elegantly sculpted, with delicately layered lemon, green apple and jasmine blossom accents that dance on the supple yet vibrant finish. Drink now through 2028. 240 cases made." - Tim Fish (Jun 2025)
98 Points - James Suckling (2022 Vintage):
“Rich golden color with beautiful notes of mangoes, candied lemons, oranges, lots of spices, hits of toffee, peach pit, Sichuan pepper and umami, with a white truffle fragrance. Full and broad with so much depth and so many layers. Polished, pristine and super refined, with firm phenolic tension and mineral verve. Lovely texture and outstanding balance. It lasts for minutes. Drink or hold." (May 2024)
