About the Wine:
The Arietta Quartet is the perennial blend of four varieties that quintessentially captures the spirit of the vintage. The 2022 vintage Quartet is dominated by the richness of Cabernet Sauvignon (71%), which in this season provided a dark, silky, textured base on which to build.

The label features a drawing of the string quartet's instruments by an eight-year-old Libby Hatton, a future proprietor of Arietta, over a manuscript of the famous Cavatina movement from Beethoven’s String Quartet Opus 130.

Winemaker Notes:
The Arietta Quartet is the perennial blend of four varieties that quintessentially captures the spirit of the vintage.  The 2022 vintage Quartet is dominated by the richness of Cabernet Sauvignon (71%), which in this season provided a dark, silky, textured base on which to build.  The growing season was the last in a string of drought vintages, which always make for low-yielding, concentrated fruit.  With all our fruit coming from the southern, cooler end of the Napa Valley (Coombsville and Carneros, to be specific), the fruit and resulting wines are also replete with natural acidity and a sense of balance.  16% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc add a juiciness and a floral and savory aroma profile, with a touch of Syrah to give a hint of chocolate and coffee.

Overall, the aromatic impression is one of ripe fruits, orange blossom, nutmeg, pan grille, and mocha.  Aging for 20 months in French oak barrels, 21% of which were new, rounded the tannins and added to the depth and charm of the wine.  Crafted to be enjoyed in its youth, this wine will still age for many years, gaining layers and softening in texture along the way.

Ratings & Reviews

93 Points - James Suckling:
"A rich and layered red, showing deep, dark-fruited character with blackberries, dark chocolate and hints of cedar and walnuts. The tannins are smooth and well defined, offering a refined yet powerful structure. Full-bodied, long and intense. Drink from 2028." (Mar 2025)

92 Points - Wine Advocate:
"The 2022 Quartet Red Wine blends 71% Cabernet Sauvignon from Coombsville with 16% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 6% Syrah, all from Carneros. With only 19% new French oak, it's barely noticeable on the complex nose, which offers up hints of tobacco, sage and more floral elements alongside notes of cassis and black cherries. Medium to full-bodied in the mouth, it's silky and delicious, even if it may fall off just a bit on the finish to reveal a touch of caramel. It's hard to believe this is an "entry-level" wine—it's that good." - Joe Czerwinski (Oct 2024)

92 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:
"The entry-level release under this label, the 2022 Red Wine Quartet is upfront and beautifully fruited, with pure red, blue, and black fruits, some leafy herb and violet notes, medium to full body, and no hard edges. Drink this plump, sexy, forward effort over the coming 7-8 years or more." (Jan 2025)

91 Points - Vinous Media:
"The 2022 Red Blend Quartet is a terrific entry-level offering from Arietta. Bright and punchy, the 2022 is hugely delicious. Juicy red cherry fruit, blood orange, mint and spice are nicely pushed forward. The 2022 is very fine. This is the first vintage in which Syrah replaces Petit Verdot as the fourth variety in the blend. (Drink between 2024-2032)." - Antonio Galloni (Dec 2024)
