Winemaker Notes:
My favorite Glacial to date. 54% Syrah, 31% Mourvèdre, 15% Grenache. Nearly all of the fruit for this blend comes from the great Ciel du Cheval vineyard in the Red Mountain AVA.

399 cases. Bringing an old-world sensibility to new world fruit, a Chateauneuf wanna-be with an affinity for the grill.

Ratings & Reviews

92 Points - Owen Bargreen:
The 2017 ‘Glacial’ blends mainly Syrah (54%) with the remainder Mourvèdre and Grenache, all sourced from the Columbia Valley. Dense and full-bodied, this maintains a really nice sense of balance, with silky tannins that line a core of pretty red fruits, with tobacco leaf, smoke and scorched earth undertones. Delicious to consume now, enjoy this great GSM style wine over the next eight years. Drink 2022-2030."

91 Points - Vinous:

"Bright red-ruby. Musky dark berries, black cherry, violet and dark chocolate on the nose. Fat, plush, sweet/savory wine with serious mouthfilling texture and needed lift from spices, minerals and black pepper. Andrew Rich previously picked the fruit for this bottling on the early side, but 2017 and 2018 bottlings strike me as riper and more generous wines, with less medicinal menthol reserve. This is fatter and more chocolatey than the 2018 version--sweeter today--but perhaps without quite the same grip. Finishes with a slightly inky quality and more serious tannins than the 2018. This wine gained in sweetness and its tannins loosened with 24 hours of aeration, while the 2018 remained distinctly drier." - Stephen Tanzer (Dec 2020)
