About this Wine:
Thanks to a profound understanding gained during years of research and experimentations, Allegrini has perfected a style of Amarone that maintains and even enhances the full potential of the grapes.

The result of the Allegrini family's expertise, a true classic of the appellation, this red wine embraces tradition, territory and the know-how of country ways. Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Oseleta are left to air dry at least until December and are checked daily to ensure perfectly healthy grapes.

Lengthy refining and ageing finally yields a red wine that has become emblematic of Italian oenology, alongside Barolo and Brunello di Montalcino. It has imposing structure and depth, as much in its aromas of mature fruit and spices, as on the palate, where the alcohol is sustained by the right degree of acidity and refined tannins.

Blend: 45% Corvina, 45% Corvinone, 5% Rondinella, 5% Oseleta

Winemaking: The best grapes, harvested in the upper hillsides, are left to dry in the drying facility for about 4 months. After a soft pressing, the wine ferments in steel tanks and ages in new barriques for 18 months, in large barrels for 7 months and in the bottle for about 14 months.

Tasting Notes:

Intense ruby red tending to garnet, it reveals an extraordinary complexity on the nose, with notes of cherries in spirits and blackberry jam, followed by hints of dried violets, dark chocolate, coffee and tobacco. It takes the palate by surprise with its balance, freshness and softness, enhanced by silky-smooth tannins.

Ratings & Reviews

95 Points - Vinous Media:
"The 2020 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is surprisingly lifted and airy in the glass, showcasing bright strawberry and cherry tones complemented by nuances of cedary spice. It is juicy in style, with silken textures and masses of ripe red and blue fruits that coast along a stream of cooling acidity. This vintage communicates refinement through the long and structured finale, coming across as savory with excellent length. Beautifully done." - Eric Guido (Sep 2025)

95 Points - Decanter Magazine:
"Floral and aromatic, silky and balanced, Allegrini's 2020 Amarone Classico is a charming red. The grapes benefitted from a drawn-out harvest which allowed perfect picking times for each plot. Spiced plum, raspberry, blackberry and dark cherry are imprinted with some baking spices and orange peel. Bold and with a touch of sweetness (3.4g/l), it's kept in check by huge acidity and a balsamic herb finish, which lift it up and balance it on its toes. A blend of 45% Corvina, 45% Corvinone, 5% Rondinella and 5% Oseleta in vineyards at between 450 and 520m above sea level." - James Button (Nov 2024)

94 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
"This Amarone leaps from the glass with an array of aromas that seem daunting at first but then are as comforting as a down comforter. Opening with aromas of ripe black plums, dusted with candied violet petals, espression and a distinct crushed chalk minerality. The palate is voluminous as dried black cherries, black tea and savory herbal flavors rush to meet the roasted coffee bean and licorice roots notes found on the compelling finish. Drink Now - 2045" - Jeff Porter (Dec 2024)

94 Points - James Suckling:
"A bold interpretation of Amarone. Refined aromas of licorice, dried cherries, camphor and menthol reverberate across a compact, dense mid-palate. At this early stage, the tannins feel largely oak-derived. But there is nothing blunt about them and there is ample mineral infusion and freshness. Bottle age will serve this rich Amarone well, placating the primary fruit while transforming the wine into something far more complex. Very good. Drink or hold." (Apr 2024)

93 Points - Wine Spectator:
"An elegant red, with a supple texture and a frame of fine-grained tannins, this offers a generous core of plumped black cherry and warm fig. Shows notes of pomegranate seed, mocha, vanilla and spiced orange peel animated by bright, plum skin acidity. Long and creamy on the aromatic herb- and graphite-laced finish. Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Oseleta. Drink now through 2035. 9,166 cases made, 2,992 cases imported." - Alison Napjus (Dec 2024)
