Winemaker Notes:

The flagship wine that started it all. Each year we taste through every barrel one by one and select the wines to blend together into the Aaron Petite Sirah. Specifically, it's the barrels that, when tasted blind, simply jump out and wow us. However, it's never about one specific character or flavor profile, but rather those barrels that speak to us across all the different vineyards. Each site we work with produces a very different style of Petite Sirah, and the goal is to create what we feel is a 'complete' wine, which in reality is quite difficult. To check all the boxes, you need to have a lot of elements to create the depth and complexity to really give it that wow factor. In total, the blend is made up of 6 different vineyards, primarily in the Willow Creek and Templeton Gap District for spice. The unique terriors of the each district bring a different element to the blend. Deep aromatics of ripe red and black fruits, black pepper, and toasty oak give way to wild berry, black cherry liqueur, licorice, and smoked meats along a full bodied but elegant frame, with a great finish framed by new French oak.

Ratings & Reviews

96 Points - The Wine Independent:

"The 2022 Petite Sirah is a blend of 85% Petite Sirah and 15% Syrah. It reveals a very deep garnet-purple color, opening, after a little coaxing, out to notes of stewed plums, blackberry preserves, and raspberry coulis, leading to fragrant wafts of Sichuan pepper, Indian spices, sandalwood, and tar. The full-bodied palate is taut and muscular with energetic black fruits, supported by grainy tannins and bags of freshness, finishing long and layered." -Lisa Perrotti-Brown (Jan 2025)

93 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:
Blackberries, pepper, violets, and bouquet garni notes define the 2022 Petite Sirah, with some gamey nuances developing with air. Based on 84% Petite Sirah and 16% Syrah aged 22 months in 50% new French oak, it's a big, mouth-filling, ripe, yet still balanced and lively Petite Sirah that has integrated tannins and acidity, with outstanding length. Give it a year or two and drink over the following decade. Drink 2026-2035.

92 Points - Vinous:
The 2022 Petite Sirah opens with a dark, brooding and backward mix of wet stones and blackberries, complemented by the slightest hint of lavender. It splashes across the palate with ease, displaying red and black fruits driven by vibrant acidity as a bitter bite of dark chocolate embellishes the close. The finish is long and youthfully tannic, with a floral resonance and nuances of spice. While quite reserved today, I expect the 2022 to blossom beautifully over the coming years. 92+ (EG)
