About the Winery:
Azienda Agricola Massolino Vigna Rionda was the dream of great-grandfather Giovanni, who founded the estate in 1896. In those days, it was a traditional Langa farm, producing fruit and vegetables, raising livestock and making wine. Today the estate is run by Franco, Roberto and Renato Massolino.
About this Wine:
Massolino’s Langhe DOC Nebbiolo is a great way to approach this prestigious grape variety, but also an absolute pleasure for those who already know it well and are looking for a balanced an authentic expression of Nebbiolo.
Appearance: garnet red with variable intensity depending on the vintage.
Bouquet: delicate and pleasant with predominant notes of raspberry and violet; with age it develops very refined and elegant secondary scents.
Flavor: an elegant and complete wine with a very charming appeal. We recommend decanting and enjoying it at a temperature of 18-20°C. Ideal throughout a meal but at its best when served with rich, tasty dishes, ranging from fresh-egg pasta with meat or vegetable sauces to grilled or roasted red meats. It is also excellent with soft and delicate blue cheeses.
Ratings & Reviews
91 Points - Decanter Magazine:
"Made mostly from young vines, this brings together fruit from vineyards with diverse altitudes and soil throughout the Langhe, yet it is a very harmonious whole. Gorgeous scents of rose and cherry blossom infuse the dark raspberry backdrop. The equally perfumed and elegantly weighted palate is redolent of pure red berry coulis. Fine, silky tannins are woven in seamlessly. Luscious acidity makes the mouth water. So easy yet so satisfying to drink." - Michaela Morris (Nov 2025)
90 Points - Vinous Media:
"The 2023 Langhe Nebbiolo is terrific. Aromatic and medium-bodied, the Langhe Nebbiolo is a fabulous entry-level wine in this range. Crushed flowers, cedar, pipe tobacco and sweet dried cherry are all nicely lifted in the glass. What a total delight." - Antonio Galloni (Jan 2026)
Jeb Dunnuck:
"Bright transparent ruby in color, the 2023 Langhe Nebbiolo has a particularly spicy aromatic profile, with notes of clove, nutmeg, holiday spice, cranberries, and darker berries. Aged partly in chestnut barrel, it’s medium-bodied and offers brisk tannins and refreshing acidity. Drink over the next several years." - Audrey Frick (Apr 2026)
