About the Winery:
Founded by Jean Orens Ferraton in 1946, son Michel enlisted his friend Michel Chapoutier to improve their wines during the 1990s. Together they embraced biodynamic farming techniques for all their vineyards and the winery has been in partnership with Michel Chapoutier since the late 1990s, although run as a separate entity (albeit one that shares many of the same philosophical leanings).
About this Wine:
GRAPE VARIETY Grenache (85%), Syrah (10%), Cinsault (5%).
SOIL The vineyards are situated on the left bank of the Rhône. Alluvial soil and gravely soil.
VINIFICATION The grapes are destemmed and the vinification takes place in vats. The extraction is made by punching down to ensure a good extraction of the tannins. The maceration lasts around 15 days. Temperature-controlled vinification.
MATURING In vats.
TASTING Color: Garnet core with ruby reflects. Nose: Aromas of very ripe red fruits Palate: Nicely structured. Aromas of blackberries, raspberries, blueberries and liquorice. Nice spices and herbs.
Ratings & Reviews
89 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:
"Moving to the reds, the 2019 Côtes Du Rhône Samorens reveals a deeper ruby/plum color as well as a meaty, peppery, earthy bouquet that offers plenty of darker fruits, medium-bodied richness, and a soft, supple, elegant texture. It’s beautifully balanced and just a mouthfilling, delicious, gulpable Côtes du Rhône that’s ideal for enjoying over the coming 3-4 years." (Oct 2020)
Wine Spectator:
"Understated, with singed sandalwood and tea hints interwoven with gently mulled cherry and raspberry fruit. The finish features a light savory edge. Grenache and Syrah. Drink now. 12,000 cases made, 3,000 cases imported." - JM (Apr 2022)
