Bright, dark red. Youthfully stunted but pure nose hints at blackberry, dark raspberry, dried herbs and spices; show less of the olive tapenade and pepper notes of the 2016 bottling but their shadow remains. Dense, rich, spicy and deep, offering surprising subtle sweetness and savory complexity to its chewy dark berry and spice flavors. At once generous, shapely and gripping, this wine finishes with serious dusty tannins, very good breadth, an element of salinity and rising length. Less showy today than the Mourvèdre but still wound a bit tight and in need of a year or two of patience. Incidentally, all of these wines sealed are with DIAM 10s, an ideal closure for this style.
