The Story:
La Ferme du Mont in the Southern Rhône boasts a mosaic of vineyards, now owned and vinified by Stéphane Vedeau. Formerly a soccer player in Paris, Stéphane has spent 15 years making award-winning wines in the Languedoc. Stéphane arrived in the Rhone Valley in 2000, creating La Ferme du Mont in the Southern Rhone where he continues to produce wines with freshness and soul using native yeasts and biodynamic methods.
Vinification and Maturation:
Situated in the Southern Rhône within the AOP Côtes du Rhône appellation, this vineyard is rooted in a diverse terroir composed of a large clay-limestone diluvium with scattered large pebbles across varying exposures—including south, southwest, and northeast-facing plots. The vines, approximately 60 years old, are primarily planted to Grenache, harvested at optimal maturity. Vinification takes place in large open-top concrete tanks, with 95% of the grapes fully destemmed and 5% left whole. This approach allows for gentle, infrequent cap management that builds fine-grained tannins in a Burgundian style while maintaining the natural freshness of the fruit. Each grape variety is vinified separately at peak ripeness, then blended after malolactic fermentation. Aging occurs predominantly in concrete, with 10% of the final blend aged in barrel to enhance complexity. Fermentations are carried out with ambient yeasts. Bottled May 2025.
Ratings & Reviews
90 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
"Heady aromas of wild strawberry, rhubarb, and delicate rose water create a vibrant bouquet. Medium-bodied and textured, the wine strikes a perfect balance with youthful tannins and refreshing acidity. Red cherries, cassis, and a hint of limestone minerality dance on the palate, offering a charming and approachable experience. Ready to enjoy now, it's an easy, delightful choice." - Anna-Christina Cabrales (Apr 2025)
