About the Winery:

Kir-Yianni was established in 1997 by Yiannis Boutaris, one of the leading figures in the Greek wine industry. Kir-Yianni, “Mr. John” in Greek, is best known for producing premium Xinomavro from the slopes of Mt. Vermio in Northwestern Greece. Today, Stellios Boutaris, son of Yiannis, actively manages the winery and their two 30+ year-old estate vineyards located in Naoussa and Amyndeon. The Kir-Yianni philosophy is a desire for innovation, respect for tradition and true knowledge of the wine, from the grape to the consumer.

Ratings & Reviews

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2017 Paranga red is an unoaked blend of 50% Merlot and 25% each of Syrah and Xinomavro (the blend varies a bit from year to year), coming in at 13.5% alcohol. This is relatively sensational for its style this year, one of the best I've seen in the brand. Its fruit-forward, grapey demeanor has a certain nod to Beaujolais. In its youth, it is remarkably vivid in flavor and simply delicious. However, it also has nice freshness, acidity lifting the fruit and a bit of a backbone. It is a lot of fun to drink on its own (perhaps a little cooler than normal), but it's also structured enough to hold up to food. Under screwcap, it should age pretty well, better than most wines of this type. On the other hand, its fruity style is really hard to resist right now, when it might well make you even happier than the score suggests. It won't turn into anything much more. For the moment, this summer-styled red at a nice price will light up every picnic." - Mark Squires (Jun 2018)
