About the Winery:
Alpha Estate is presided over by winemaker Angelos Latridis and vinegrower Makis Mavridis. Angelo studied in Bordeaux and is considered by many to be Greece’s most promising winemaker. Together they cultivate international varieties as well as indigenous Greek varieties, and all the wines are crafted in Alpha’s state-of-the-art gravity-flow winery. Alpha is considered one of the most cutting-edge producers in Greece and has established one of the most technologically advanced vineyards in the viticulture world.

About the Wine:
This wine is 100% Malagouzia, an ancient grape varietal producing highly aromatic wines with a round and soft palate. The wines are from P.G.I. Florina in north-west Greece. The grapes are destemmed and fermented in stainless steel under temperature control and aged 2 months on the lees. This wine is produced from estate owned vineyards at 690 m elevation on northwest facing vineyards.

Tasting Notes:

Brilliantly, light yellow in color with greenish tints. Strong and lively nose, typical Malagouzia, suggesting rose petal with floral aromas and sweet spices, melon, litchi with a note of honeysuckle. Round and mellow on the palate, fat but balanced, high in alcohol with plenty of finesse. Well structured, reminding the nose aromas with a hint of rosemary. A richly textured wine with superb length and balance. A classy wine with long finish and persistent aromas.

Ratings & Reviews

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
" The 2020 Malagouzia Turtles Vineyard is unoaked, dry and comes in at 13.1% alcohol. This was in bottle about two months when seen. Elegant and aromatic, this lovely Malagouzia is also filled with flavor. The aromatics and flavors are why this is such an appealing grape in Greece. It's hard to resist. The concentration is just average, though, and so is the structure. Enjoy this very young. Its freshness and exuberance will make you happy." - Mark Squires (Mar 2021)
