About the Winery:
Viña Cobos makes wines that are authentic expressions of the terroir from which they come. Paul Hobbs, founding partner and winemaker at Viña Cobos, has worked since 1988 in the exploration of the different terroirs of Mendoza, looking for the most distinguished regions in Luján de Cuyo and the Valle de Uco, to produce wines that uniquely express their origins.
With the inaugural vintage of Cobos Malbec in 1999, Viña Cobos marked a milestone in viticulture, defying existing standards and firmly positioned Malbec and Argentina on the international wine scene. Since then, these prestigious wines have been recognized around the globe by critics and consumers alike.
About the Wine:
Bramare - meaning "to yearn” in Italian. From the memoirs of Frances Mayes "Under the Tuscan Sun", the term "Bramare" captures the spirit in which Viña Cobos was founded.
Ageing:
18 months in French oak barrels, 20% in first use. Unfined.
Tasting Notes:
Deep ruby red color with violet tones. Aromas of red fruit, plum, graphite and floral notes. The palate is round and balanced, with sweet and juicy tannins.
Ratings & Reviews
94 Points Vinous Media:
"The 2021 Malbec Bramare Valle de Uco comes from several vineyards in the Uco Valley and was aged for eighteen months, 20% in new French oak and the rest in used barrels. This is a rich purple in the glass. The nose presents enticing blackberry and plum aromas intertwined with herbs and clear cedar hints. It's ample and full-bodied with sweet tannins and a juicy mouthfeel, culminating in a mouthwatering, lingering finish. This is a superlative, precise, ripe wine from a cool year. (Drink between 2023-2036)" - Joaquin Hidalgo (Sep 2023)
95 Points - James Suckling:
"Crushed stone and violet with blueberries and hints of boysenberry aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied with firm tannins and a minerally and bright finish. Crunchy and stony. Drink or hold." - (Feb 2023)
91 Points - Wine Spectator:
"Lush and inviting for the roasted plum and chocolate aromas and flavors, with a pleasant herbal, chicory spine that fans out around fresh acidity and lingers nicely around the core flavors and mineral-tinged tannins. Drink now through 2033." - Aaron Romano (Nov 2023)
