A Personal Note
Dear Artisans, The family that planted Pritchard Hill was honored once again. Chappellet Pritchard Hill 2023 just earned: 100 points from the Wine Advocate and 100 points from Jeb Dunnuck, with Decanter at 99 and Suckling at 98 close behind. Dunnuck expects it to cellar for fifty years. Our allocation is twelve bottles, arriving next week. This note exists so you can claim one before they land. The Original Pioneer Of Pritchard Hill
Before Pritchard Hill became the most exclusive address in Napa, Donn and Molly Chappellet were already there. The family has owned its slice of the hill for more than fifty years, making Chappellet one of the oldest family-owned wineries in the region — and the first winery there to plant its vineyards exclusively on high-elevation hillsides, back when everyone else wanted the easy valley floor. Every cult name that followed them up the hill validated that decision. Rocky volcanic soils, thin crops, intense mountain fruit: the recipe Chappellet wrote in 1967 is now the most imitated in Napa. Look At The Neighbors
Chappellet’s neighbors on the hill are Bryant Family, Melanson and Del Dotto, and it sits a stone’s throw from Colgin, Ovid, Continuum and David Arthur — some of those names trade for multiple times the price of this one. Same hill, same volcanic rock, same fog line. The map below is worth a long look.

The Odd Math Of This Release
Here is the part that makes no sense, in your favor. The double-100 2023 is $299.99 — less than any of the library vintages below it, because the market prices maturity and the winery prices its release. A wine the critics call perfect, from the pioneer of the hill, at the lowest price on this page. Twelve bottles. Perfection has rarely been this attainable. The Library, For The Impatient
A fifty-year wine asks for patience, so we are pairing the 2023 with the answer: the last dozen bottles each of the 2017, 2018 and 2019 Pritchard Hill — aged in professional storage, entering their drinking windows now — and the last thirteen of the 97-point Signature 2022, the estate’s famous second act at $84.97. How The Pre-Sale Works
Order now and your 2023 is reserved from the twelve; we will confirm the moment the allocation lands next week. The library vintages are on the shelf and ship immediately. First come, first served on all of it.

100 Points
"The flagship release here, the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Pritchard Hill sports a saturated purple hue and absolutely heavenly aromatics of crème de cassis, liquid violets, graphite, crushed stone, and a Pauillac-like character that builds with time in the glass... full-bodied, has a deep, concentrated mouthfeel, ultra-fine tannins, and a great, great finish. This is magical stuff that offers pleasure even today given its purity, balance, and finesse, but I'd be shocked if it didn't keep for 50 years or more. Drink 2025-2075." |

Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate · Joe Czerwinski
100 Points
"The incredible quality of Chappellet's striking 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Pritchard Hill is presaged on the nose by its lovely cool mint and sage notes, which seamlessly join with mixed red and black cherries and violets. It's full-bodied but wonderfully supple, with a substantial but fine-knit structure and a long, silky-textured finish." |

Decanter · Jonathan Cristaldi
99 Points
"Now this is one beautiful, full-bodied, full-framed Napa Cabernet from an iconic producer... This powerful wine overflows with ripe fruit and lavish Indian and Asian spices, and candied violets, while powerful tannin is perfectly integrated, forming a seamless tapestry of dark berry fruit-and-brown-spice through the finish. Tasted over three days, it just gets better and better. Drinking Window: 2026-2050." Mar 2026 |

Nine years on, right in the window. The Wine Advocate: “bounding out of the glass... elegantly played and refreshing with velvety tannins and a long mineral-tinged finish.” Galloni calls it “positively stellar.”
|
|
Pritchard Hill 2018
The great, generous 2018 vintage at its peak stride. Dunnuck: “remarkable purity, flawless balance... count yourself lucky, and enjoy over the following 25+ years.” Aged 22 months in 100% new French oak.
|
|
Pritchard Hill 2019
One point from perfect. The Wine Advocate’s 99: “another wonderfully evocative triumph from this family-owned Pritchard Hill pioneer... fantastic intensity and great poise.” Suckling: “pure velvet. The finish goes on and on.”
|
|
‘Signature’ Cabernet Sauvignon 2022
The same Pritchard Hill fruit in the estate’s three-decade benchmark. Dunnuck: “a killer wine and great value... a no-brainer purchase that will drink beautifully for 10-12 years.” Your everyday door into the hill.

Perfection from the hill that started it all,
twelve bottles at a time.
Two 100-point scores, a fifty-year drinking window, and the pioneer’s name on the label — at less than the library vintages beside it, and a fraction of what the neighbors ask. If you have room for one trophy Cabernet this year, this is the honest choice.
Twelve bottles of the 2023 arrive next week. The library’s last dozens are on the shelf now. Both lists will be shorter by Monday.
Cheers,
— James Tran
