A Personal Note
Dear Artisans,
Anderson Valley’s Roederer Estate has done it again, producing a perfect 100-point sparkling wine in their 2019 L’Ermitage Brut. Sadly, we are down to our last 9 bottles of the vintage. We also have a few bottles left of perfectly aged library releases from the winery, and they are exploding from the bottle right now.
If Sunshine Could Be Bottled
Wine Enthusiast gave the 2019 100 points and a Cellar Selection: “If sunshine could be bottled it would be this… Mouthwatering finish. It will bring a smile to your lips.”
Antonio Galloni at Vinous, at 96: the 2019 is “shaping up to be the greatest wine ever made at Roederer Estate.” It is the first L’Ermitage made with full malolactic fermentation, and it carries the lowest dosage ever used here, 6 grams per liter.
A Top 100 Wine, Again And Again
Iconic Anderson Valley stunner L’Ermitage has deservedly been ranked a Top 100 Wine of the Year seven times and counting, including #1: the 2004 was Wine Enthusiast’s #1 at 97 points, the 2011 was #2, and Wine Spectator put the 2012 at #5. Look at the scores those rankings came with, and then at a perfect 100 on the 2019.
L’Ermitage: acclaim across the vintages
Made Only In Exceptional Years
L’Ermitage is made only in exceptional years, from pre-selected, estate-grown grapes. Champagne Louis Roederer established its California outpost in 1982, and its tête de cuvée has impressed since its debut with the 1989 vintage. Like the Champagne house in France, Roederer Estate makes its wines in the traditional method and adds oak-aged reserve wines to each blend.
Jeb Dunnuck tells the rest: Roederer started planting in Anderson Valley in 1982, “when California sparkling wine wasn’t yet a thing,” and the estate is now entirely estate-grown, farming 600 acres organically and biodynamically, in a valley winemaker Arnaud Weyrich says has higher acidity on average than Champagne.
How We Got These Bottles
In June 2025 we hosted Roederer Estate’s winemaker, Arnaud Weyrich, for an unbelievably delicious masterclass and deep dive. That evening is how these precious bottles came to us, and they are the last of them.
