About the Winery:
RAEN Winery was founded in 2013 by Carlo & Dante Mondavi, the two sons of Tim Mondavi. After working with their father in building Continuum, they decided to go off on their own and venture out to the West Sonoma Coast to make cool climate Pinot Noir that can stand on its own on the world stage.

RAEN is a Pinot Noir domaine focused on yielding aromatic, lifted wines of finesse and elegance from what we consider to be three “grand cru” vineyards capable of sitting among the worlds finest.

About the Vineyard:
Our Royal St. Robert Cuvée is named in honor of our grandfather who, along with our father taught us the art of winegrowing and to be committed to excellence. This bottling is a selection of our finest barrels giving a window into the cool, rugged westerly hills of the true Sonoma Coast.

About the Wine:
This bottling is dedicated to our grandfather Robert, who taught and inspired us each and every day and who continues to do so on this journey. A selection of our coastal vineyard sites, this special cuvée gives us a window into the cool, rugged hills of the West Sonoma Coast.

Aromas of fresh strawberry, crushed dark cherry and black plum fill the bowl. Wild berries, coastal rock and forest floor follow, delicately coming together with ripe, silky tannins and a bright acidity, giving way to a beautifully long and persistent finish.

Ratings & Reviews

99 Points - James Suckling:
An amazingly complex, dynamic wine that demands your attention from the first sniff to the lingering finish. Aromas of redwood forest, rosemary, purple flowers and black cherries, then black tea, pomegranate, dark cherry, dried raspberry and wild mushroom flavors. Fine-grained moderate tannins and crunchy acidity give it such a firm backbone. Drink now or hold.

93 Points - Vinous:
The 2023 Pinot Noir Royal St. Robert is redolent of floral, savory and citrus notes. I find it especially brilliant and crystalline. At the same time, the 2023 is pretty tightly wound. Rose petal, iron, tea leaves, incense and dried herbs open nicely with some coaxing, The colder growing season brings out the slightly gamier, wilder side of Pinot Noir along with plenty of brightening acidity in this mid-weight, taut Pinot from Raen. I would give this a year or two in bottle at a minimum. 2026-2038.
