About the Distillery:
Kilkerran is the name that was chosen for the single malt produced at Mitchell’s Glengyle Distillery. Kilkerran is derived from the Gaelic ‘Ceann Loch Cille Chiarain’ which is the name of the original settlement where Saint Kerran had his religious cell and where Campbeltown now stands. Kilkerran is thought to be a suitable name for a new Campbeltown malt since it was unusual for the old Campbeltown distilleries to be called after a Glen, a custom more usually associated with the Speyside region.
About the whisky:
The latest edition of Kilkerran's Peat In Progress series. A departure from our typically lightly peated single malt, our Heavily Peated Kilkerran is released twice per year at cask strength and around 45PPM. Although the maturation can vary, it is typically matured predominantly in Bourbon casks.
Cask Maturation: 90% Bourbon, 10% Sherry
Proof: 115.8
Tasting Notes:
Nose: In typical Kilkerran style, there is a citrus element on the nose with notes of lemon and key lime pie, along with touches of toasted rye bread and peat smoke.
Palate: There are notes of toasted marshmallows and campfire embers immediately on the palate, with hints of vanilla and custard.
Finish: The smokiness carries through to the finish, along with a mineral note to round off this dram.
