Distillery Notes:
Frank August's first-ever wheated bourbon: Case Study: 05 Wheated Reserve 5 Barrel Batch, the fifth expression in the brand’s Case Study series.
Case Study: 05 features a blend of five barrels of Kentucky Straight Wheated Bourbon Whiskey, aged between 6-plus and 7-plus years. With only eight batches produced, the 104.5 proof bourbon offers a limited-edition experience.
Tasting Notes:
Appearance: Warm chestnut wih golden edges. In the glass, it forms slow, graceful legs that suggest a smooth, full-bodied texture.
Nose: Soft and inviting, with aromas of vanilla bean, baked apple and toasted marshmallow. Beneath that, layers of honeyed graham cracker, subtle oak, and a touch of baking spice.
Palate: Rich and rounded flavors of caramel, toffee and sweet cornbread are balanced by soft baking spice and a hint of dark cherry. The wheat lends a creamy mouthfeel, smoothing out the edges and allowing the sweetness to shine.
Finish: Long, mellow and warming. Notes of vanilla custard and light oak linger, with just enough spice to keep it structured and balanced. The proof carries through with a gentle persistence, never overpowering.

"Fresh floral aromas of vanilla, complemented by cedar and toffee. On the palate, inviting layers of cinnamon, milk chocolate and nutmeg create a harmonious balance, leading to a delightful finish of gentle baking spice and a touch of royal icing."
"On the nose, it offers pronounced aromas of caramelized brown sugar, old leather, baked apples, and a hint of cinnamon dust. The palate is luxuriously smooth yet complex, delivering layers of vanilla bean, maple candy, toasted almond, and clove-spiced toffee. The finish is long and silky, fading slowly with sweet oak and warm baking spice. This release showcases the creamy, rich side of wheated bourbon, with impressive complexity for a small batch offering." - Robb Report
"The whiskey embraces its wheat name, showcasing softer flavors throughout. The sip opens with baking scents, highlighting fresh dough, cinnamon crumble, and faint grain. Lighter notes form the midpoint, with brown sugar butter, faint cherry, and a chewy berry turnover forming the backbone of the midpoint. The finish is light spice and oak colliding with a quick burst of heat. Overall, wheated bourbon fans will enjoy this pour."
