Denominacion de Origen: D.O. Rias Baixas

Location: Finca Iglesario – 1970 – Meaño Finca Playa – 1978 - Cambados

Varietal: 100% Albariño

Viticulture: Traditional dry farmed viticulture. Practicing organic pergola trained vines, cultivated completely by hand.

Soils: Acidic sandy alluvial soils that are the result of the decomposition of the granite mother rock.

Climate: Atlantic climate. Very humid for the majority of the year with warm summers. Influenced by the gulf stream.

Winemaking: Hand-harvested and stored in small baskets. The grapes are sorted at the winery and pressed after a 12-hour cold soak, which helps prevent oxidation of the must and allows us to reduce the amount of SO2 used in winemaking. Destemmed and whole cluster pressing in a pneumatic press. Fermented in 500L & 600L puncheons and demi-muids (new, second, third, and fourth use).

Aging: Aged on the lees for twelve months with biweekly battonage.

Comments: La Caña Navia recovers the traditional methods of elaborating Albariño, before the incorporation of stainless steel tanks, when the wines were fermented and aged in large chestnut wood barrels on the lees. These were the wines that Jorge Ordóñez first discovered in Rias Baixas when he became the first person to export this variety.

Ratings & Reviews

94 Points - James Suckling (2022):
"A sophisticated albarino that you need to take seriously. There is almost a Burgundian touch to this, with its fine, flinty oak, lemon zest, seashells and berries. Salty and bright, with lots of nerve and texture to the taut, medium- to full-bodied palate. Pretty long, saline and energetic. Drink or hold." (May 2024)

94 Points - Jeb Dunnuck (2022):
"The 2022 La Caña Navia comes from two separate vineyards and is 100% Albarino. It has a beautifully pure, almost crystalline-like profile of bright citrus and lime fruits, crushed stone, sappy flowers, and mint. I love its overall balance, and it's medium-bodied, with a great mid-palate, integrated acidity, and a terrific finish." (Jul 2024)

91 Points - Wine Spectator (2022):
"Firm and focused, with lip-smacking acidity and a streak of salinity defining the flavors of guava, passion fruit, tangerine peel, lemon thyme, vanilla and salted almond. Long and racy on the finish. Best from 2025 through 2030. 1,250 cases made, 850 cases imported." - Alison Napjus (Aug 2024)
