Dauvissat 2018 to 2023 Premier and Grand Cru Chablis, only 1 to 6 bottles of each, up to 97 points, endless finish
A Personal Note
Dear Artisans,
For the uninitiated: one sip of Dauvissat and you will commune with your gods. The problem is getting that sip.
This is one of the most gate-kept, hoarded and guarded bottles in all of wine. Master Sommeliers, Three-Michelin-Star wine lists, Sotheby’s and Christie’s all fight for it. We are allocated one to six bottles of each wine, sometimes. Not even every year.
Below is every Dauvissat bottle we have: seven wines, from the 2018 Montée de Tonnerre to the 2023 Les Preuses Grand Cru, 26 bottles in all, each with its count.
Why It Ends Up At Sotheby’s
Dauvissat is a fixture at the great auction houses. In June 2023, Sotheby’s London sold the 2010 Les Clos Grand Cru for £4,750 with the buyer’s premium, after 28 bids and past its high estimate.
Why does it go to auction at all? Dauvissat releases its wines at comparatively modest prices, and as Peter Dean of The Buyer put it, the grey market has a field day with them. You don't have to deal with any of this monkey business here at Artisan.
Why There Is So Little
The whole domaine is about 12.7 hectares, roughly 31 acres. The Montée de Tonnerre parcel is 0.30 hectares, less than an acre.
Then France gets first call. A loyal following among France’s most esteemed restaurateurs sharply limits the availability of Dauvissat wines for export; Stephen Tanzer called them essential on the wine lists of France’s three-star restaurants.
Among The Greatest In Chablis
Ask a Chablis lover to choose between Dauvissat and Raveneau and you have started the wine world’s version of the old Mantle-or-Mays argument, as Tanzer put it. Most have a favorite, he wrote, but virtually all agree that “these two outstanding estates are at the top of the Chablis pecking order.”
Clive Coates places Dauvissat beside the Raveneaus at the top of the Chablis hierarchy. Decanter titled its profile “Dauvissat: The wizard of Chablis.”
The Domaine
Domaine Vincent Dauvissat is one of Chablis’ most iconic names. Since 1931, when Robert Dauvissat first bottled his own wine, the family has crafted wines of purity, precision and unmistakable minerality from the region’s legendary Kimmeridgian limestone, laid down on an ancient seabed some 150 million years ago. Each bottle reflects patience, tradition and an unwavering respect for terroir.
Vincent runs the domaine today with his son Ghislain and daughter Etiennette. They have farmed biodynamically since 2002, and about half their casks are still feuillettes, the small 132-liter Chablis barrel: probably the only domaine keeping that tradition on any scale.
Straight From The Official Importer
At Artisan Wine, these are our precious bottles, received directly through the real, official importer, with perfect storage and provenance, and kept in our icy-cold warehouse. They shine with freshness now, yet age beautifully for years.

Petit Chablis is the rung of the ladder most collectors skip. Dauvissat gives these vines the same meticulous care as the Grand Cru sites, and it shows. Here are its top two reviews.
Decanter · Charles Curtis MW
92 Points
A wine not to be missed, with fresh, ripe green apple, nectarine fruit aromas and a suggestion of hawthorn blossom. The texture is lovely, silky and fresh, with enough acidity to balance all the ripe fruit. The grapes come from 0.4ha at the top of Les Clos in Portlandian soil. Although this is made for consumption now, there is enough substance to hold up to mid-term ageing. September 2024
Wine Advocate · Kristaps Karklins

Now in bottle, the 2023 Petit Chablis is delivering more than its modest origins imply. The wine rises from the glass with aromas of orange peel, pear and white flowers. On the palate, it reveals a generous, fleshy core of fruit energized by tangy acidity, lending the wine surprising gravitas. The finish is long, vibrant and mouthwatering. This is a Petit Chablis that punches above its weight. January 2026

This classic expression of Chablis boasts aromas of ripe apple and grapefruit, oyster shell and minerals. The texture is lively and bright, with a classic equilibrium… yet the wine also shows a charmingly expressive, generous side. Should open up in three years and drink well over the next 20. June 2025

The 2023 Chablis—sourced chiefly from vineyard parcels that border La Forest—continues to distinguish itself as one of the finest examples in its category. Its bouquet weaves together citrus oils, pear and white peach. The medium- to full-bodied palate is ample and textural, displaying considerable depth and energy that persist through to a long, sapid finish. While it can—and undoubtedly will—be approached young, it possesses all the prerequisites for graceful evolution… January 2026

The 2021 frost hit Vaillons hard: Neal Martin counted seven barrels and five feuillettes, the small 132-liter Chablis cask, for the whole vintage. Four critics scored it 92 to 93+. This is our last bottle.

The 2021 Chablis Vaillons 1er Cru was severely affected by the frost this year, so there are just seven barrels and five feuillettes this year. It has a beautifully defined bouquet with fine focus and energy, honeysuckle and light crushed stone aromas. The palate is very intense with a killer line of acidity, taut and fresh with a twist of sour lemon on the finish. Excellent. September 2022

This means business from the outset with a beautifully fresh and mouthwatering, citrus and yellow-nectarine nose. The palate has a super fleshy, mouth-filling shape and delivers so much peach and grapefruit flavor, before binding tight and releasing a sizzling mineral line that runs so long. Impressive and explosive! Try from 2024. July 2019

Another very clear fresh colour. The Montée de Tonnerre is a little bit austere on the nose, very lean and tight and yet with a super quality of fruit behind, in a mix of styles but including some ripe apple notes amongst others. May 2019

Wine Advocate · Kristaps Karklins
96 Points
The 2023 Chablis 1er Cru La Forest is nothing short of superb in bottle and ranks among the year’s most authoritative wines. A pure, marine-inflected opening—iodine, lemon peel and oyster liquor mingled with beeswax and dried apricot—precedes a concentrated yet tensile palate of taut muscularity. Bright acidity and abundant chalky extract lend the wine a bracing, kinetic edge, culminating in an intensely saline, persistent finish. Dauvissat here once again affirms its status as one of the site’s greatest interpreters. January 2026
Decanter · Charles Curtis MW
95 Points
Premier cru La Forest from Dauvissat is a wine of lovely richness, concentration and depth. Aromas range from lemon peel to passion fruit and hazelnut, and the silky, fine texture is still substantial enough to impress on the lingering finish. The wine is among the most well-known wines from Dauvissat, as one might expect; the domaine owns nearly 3.5ha spread over thirty small parcels, in soils with a high clay content that brings a slightly exotic edge to the wine. Wine Advocate · Kristaps Karklins
97+ Points
An example of purity and stony tension, Vincent Dauvissat’s 2022 Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses is the crowning achievement of an extraordinary portfolio. With an understated Chablisien character, it opens in the glass to reveal a marine bouquet of oyster shell and iodine mingling with lemon zest and white flowers. Refined and laden with incisive acids, an abundance of chalky structuring extract and with a persistent, searingly saline finish, it is more ethereal and elegant than Les Clos yet possesses all the prerequisites to age as gracefully. March 2025
Jasper Morris · Inside Burgundy
97 Points
The name of the vineyard is a version Pierreuses, referencing the huge blocks of stone underneath a reasonable marly topsoil. The 2022 displays a really complex nose, a bit of sun on the stones, the cailloux chauds of the amphitheatre in which Vincent Dauvissat’s holding sits. Then follows a massive development of fruit on the palate too. There is really a huge volume of fruit at the back, with a little iodine touch throughout. Makes one salivate! Drink from 2032-2045. Les Preuses sits on the western side of the Grand Cru hill, running from Les Clos in the south to Bougros in the north. The family acquired its parcel after 1950 and replanted it in 1970. Seven critics have scored the 2023, from 94 to 97. Here are the top four.
Wine Advocate · Kristaps Karklins
97 Points
As one might reasonably anticipate, the 2023 Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses follows a more understated trajectory than Les Clos yet is no less profound. Its bouquet unfurls layers of sea breeze, spring flowers and orange peel mingling with iodine and flint. The medium- to full-bodied palate is filigreed and laser-focused, built around a crisp core of fruit and propelled by racy acidity toward a long, saline finale. Elegant and ethereal, it promises a long and broad enjoyment window. January 2026
John Gilman · View From The Cellar
97 Points
The Dauvissat family’s 2023 les Preuses is a brilliant wine. The bouquet is deep, precise and vibrant, delivering notes of lemon, pear, apple, a stunningly complex foundation of chalky minerality, beeswax, white lilies and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and rock solid at the core, with great soil signature, a fine spine of acidity, impeccable balance and a very, very long, complex and mineral-driven finish. A stunning example. 2031-2075+. January/February 2026
Decanter · Charles Curtis MW
96 Points
In a swirling aromatic complexity, fruit aromas range from lime peel to guava, green apple and spice. A suggestion of white blossoms and a bit of toasty reduction are underlined with chalky minerality. The palate has lovely concentration, but the wine is never heavy; it has perfect finesse and precision. This wine is exceedingly youthful, and although it is undeniably delicious now, it will age tranquilly for at least another 30 years. This has it all. September 2024
Jasper Morris · Inside Burgundy
95 Points
A fullish lemon yellow. Taking time to coax out the nose. Still stony. Utterly magical on the palate with a wealth of perfectly poised fruit, nothing ‘solaire’ and a seemingly endless finish. So many little dancing details! Drink from 2030-2040. June 2025
