Josh’s Wine Cellar

Six bottles from Italy, Spain and France — the most exciting things on our shelves right now, at an average of $29.48 a bottle.

A note from James

Josh — take two of each and you walk away with a dozen bottles: four whites and eight reds, spanning Tuscany, Sicily, the Loire, Bordeaux twice, and the mountains west of Madrid.

A few worth knowing about before you scroll. The Clos des Lunes has been our best-selling Bordeaux Blanc every single year since its debut in 2012 — it’s made by the Domaine de Chevalier team on gravel a kilometre from d’Yquem, and sells for twenty dollars. The Aurore de Dauzac is the second wine of a 5th Growth Classified Margaux estate in what most critics are calling the best Bordeaux vintage in a generation. And the Telmo Rodríguez is farmed by hand and by mule at 900 metres by the man who has made two 100-point wines; it should cost double and it doesn’t.

Text or email me whichever ones you want and I’ll set them aside for you.

— James

A textbook example of excellent dry white in 2023: you get the sumptuousness of ripe Sémillon with nectarine juiciness and the verve and citrus punch, in this case kiwi, from the Sauvignon Blanc.

Candied lime, green melon, mint and chalk dust. Round and supple, it shows a tinge of sour citrus for balance as ripe orchard fruits further soothe the senses… A total pleasure to taste.

An intense and perfumed wine full of violets, blood oranges, red cherries and pepper. The attack is soft, with a medium body, velvety tannins, crisp acidity and a savory finish. Juicy and delicious.

A year in which Dauzac excelled! Aurore is a bit deeper and structured with bright black fruit, berries, fine spices and crushed stones. Dusty tannins crumble nicely on the palate with full body and a long, powdery finish. Lots of energy.

Bright red fruits and fresh Mediterranean herbs, offering immediacy and charm… There’s a firm, energetic structure beneath the brightness, giving the wine tension and clarity. This always offers tremendous value.
